Damn you Mr P4cks.... And your cheap cheap discs!!!!!

Though mine are scheduled to arrive tomorrow (every fcuking finger and toe crossed at the moment - and it bloody hurts) so should be able to fit them on Saturday with the help of redvts, subject to him still being available!

Oh and if anyone in the Newcastle / Gateshead / Durham or other NE area is considering doing it themselves (again if redvts doesn't mind) you are welcome to come and observe.... PM me and I'll send you the address and my contact details.

The fun should begin at 10am somewhere within the fair city of Newcastle upon Tyne. Though I know my luck and one of the calipers will just fall to pieces in my hand - Just a good job she won't need the other car next week if it does end up in disaster.

I'd help if redvts can't. Just let me know, it's a 30 minute job each side :)

Not in the rain, or on my car with discs that appeared to be 63k miles / 8yrs old eh?

But all done thanks to Darren (RedVTS) and 'The Doctor' (P4cks - once you had arrivedPosted Image and before you scarpered earlyPosted Image).

Next set of pads are definitely are going to be done with discs as for the minimal extra effort and cost (once we had knocked lumps out of them trying to get them to come off the hub) it seems to be worth it....

Time to go bed them in!

Right, further to my celebrations it was possibly slightly premature.... One of the rear discs seems to be dragging on the disc and as it get warm is swelling and further increasing contact with the disc to the point where it is difficult to turn the wheel by hand. However once it has cooled it will run freely again! The handbrake when off (when discs are cool) seems to be completely releasing as the car will roll with minimal effort, but we didn't adjust the handbrake after doing the brakes. Mine and Darren's thoughts are a sticky caliper, but what would be the best way to resolve this? Is it to strip it and regrease it, or replace it? Looks like I am back in the Rover again this week until I can get the car into a local garage up here to see what they can do!

Thanks for the guide. Just fitted ally bells/discs. Took the tip to use an impact driver on the 5mm grub screw, worked a treat, not rounded and remove nicely. Not refitted as the bells don't have the hole. Ally Bells/Discs = 5.3kg where as OEM discs = 7.1kg thumbsup

Nice one. Used it to fit my ally discs and bells last week as well.

Dave If you mean a torque for reattaching the calipers then I couldn't find one on the TIS. I did mine up to just over 45 Nm which felt tight enough.

Is this the accepted wisdom?

Thanks

If Rob suggests something I would be very very inclined to accept it as more than appropriate.

you don't have to remove the rear calipers to change the disc / pads

just remove the outer and inner pads by pushing them to the centre , then you have enough clearance to remove the disc.

so no messing about with hand brake cable , no disturbing any safety critical bolts , no chance of damaging the boots.

There was no chance of me managing that when I did mine, as the clearance was just too tight to squeeze pads back in. I found it much much easier to remove the caliper.

you have to pull the brake caliper on its slider away from the car , then you have lots of space. you will have to wind in the piston.
