I have a 2004 MG ZR 1.4 - Awaiting the inevitable (though post 2002 cars are supposed to have a better HG), but it is covered on a warranty.
As for a VX alternative I do like it, it isn't fast - it's relatively nippy and the steering for a shed is also pretty good, the 205/45/17 Straights help.
Touch wood it has been a great example so far.... Bought it with 26k on it 18 months ago and it has creeped past the 50k mark this weekend and all it has cost me is a service and MOT.
Though two new front tyres (scrubbing these so much faster since buying the VX) are gonna be needed soon as will it's next Service & MOT. But when all said and done "Hank" as the missus named it has been a real soldier.
That's not a shed.
Get out!
I have also got a 1.4 ZR, 05 plate, doesn't go that fast but it handles ok.
Had an S plate 214 before and the head gasket went at 60k, it was fairly easy to change only cost about £70 in parts and a days work.
The biggest pain was flushing all of the "mayonaise" out of the coolent system, the oil wrecked the water pump seals, so I had to change that aswell.

Do i win extra points when i tell you that now that the central locking has packed in i can't lock my shed? (the main door lock is broken)
Also i left it unlocked in a development area of glasgow city centre and it was still there this morning when i woke up?
That's rubbish..... so far this week I've blown an exhaust and am running on 3cyl. Sounds like a V8!

All bets are off. P4cks wins by a mile with the shittest Proton ever. Combined with a Metro later on.

Then when I came to sell the car was another story in itself...
Advertised for £375 ono in the Autotrader. Bloke comes to look at it, takes it round the block (literally) and then says it's a beauty(?!) and he'll have it. He said, "The thing is, I only have £170 cash", to which I thought was a decent enough offer and I was about to tell him he could have it there and then but he added "The rest I'll have to write you a cheque for". I actually LOL'd and said that was fine. I let him drive away there and then, and the cheque cleared some days after that. I was laughing for days after that! Funniest thing was was that he was buying it for his daughter as her first car. I suppose from that point the only way is up...

There is a story behind the the Proton... It was the worst (looking, mechanically it was faultless!) I could find and it was purchased from a forum member. I got a train down from Newcastle to Bedfordshire (I think) to pick it up. I also paid for my mate to come down with me, I was out on the lash the night before and I slept in and missed the train so I had to buy us both another pair of tickets. The car only cost me £175 but the tickets and petrol were considerably more than that.

I do love a story with a happy ending: I would have expected to find the £170 cash all forgeries and the £205 cheque bouncing to be inevitable.

Something is not right in the world at the moment. I managed to change the backbox on the exhaust with my dad and then changed the coil pack myself. Nothing went wrong, it only took about 30mins for the exhaust and 5 mins for the ignition coil. Everything went right first time and I even managed to guess the correct size of star headed screwdriver straight off.

I have a feeling something is about to blow up!

Coincidentally I was out with my mate yesterday shed spotting, although he seems to be looking for a car which doesn't exist. He constantly needed reminding that he only had £600 in his sky rocket. We even found a Suburu Legacy estate with 98k miles for £650 which he "didn't like".

I've just bought this...
Clicky
...picking it up next SaturdayAnd I always used to take the mick out of my Grandad for driving one lol. I think it looks better than the hatch though, it's a proper kids drawing of a car. See how we get on.
65k on the clock. That's not too bad at all.
Looks fairly tidy for a box!
