bought a car for 8.7k on ebay... seller has been really grumpy from the start... it's been 2 days looking to collect within 7 days. just phoned now to arrange for an RAC inspection on Monday and he's refusing it..... i pointe dout politely that does he undertand how dodgy that looks and why would i buy a car i've never seen without it being checked first... i'm not trying to catch him out. his reason is because RAC just find faultsad could find faults with a enw car..... he hung up on me... how dodgy??? surely i'm not being unreasonable?

Was the sale advertised on ebay "subject to satisfactory RAC inspection" or similar? If you're thinking of bidding on a car on ebay, you should look at it, test drive, kick tyres, arrange RAC inspection, etc before placing a bid. If you've won the bidding, you've entered into a contract to buy the car. Not to possibly, perhaps, maybe discuss buying it.

I agree - pull out of it. If he treats you like this, imagine how he has treated the car!

I think you should have agreed to an RAC inspection before the auction ended. Now the auction has ended, you've agreed to buy the car. I guess you can still walk away, but you will (rightly) get negative feedback. At least you will have learnt something from this thumbsup

i've got no intention of not buying it... i really want the thing.... i said i'm coming to pick it up on Wednesday and get RAC over on Monday.... then he put his hand over the phone and told his dad who came on the phone and got all stroppy. I explained i'm not trying to catch him out i just want to make sure the car is as advertised just cat d with paintwork sorted etc. I wasn't even suspecting anything untowards until he got so defensive about it... blew my mind. If he's got nothing tohide what's his problem????

p.s. i don't think i could justify almost £400 for a full RAC check before... i'd won the bid fair enough???? And even then why on earth would he mind unless there's something dodgy about it??? he ekpt banging on about it having an MOt and i lostmy rag and said "to be fair you own a garage and the garage that did the MOT is 5 doors down.... is not the most impartial MOt is it?"

yeah fair enough... i only saw the acution 2 hours before it finished... i maintain though... it's not SUBJECT to and RAC because the results of the check could only have confirmed it's okay or confirmed he's not told the truth about the damage... either way it's all fair and good..

I'm asking myself whether i should NEED to confirm it's okay to get a check done..... should i confirm it's okay to test drive it or that there's an engine in it? Some things are standard and i would say getting a car looked at is one of them.

If i refused to buy it after the checkup on weak grounds... THEN i would be in wrong. maybe i'm being a bit presumptive.

I've changed my mind  :D Legal contract and all that. In Scottyland you have to survey a house before you submit a sealed bid. So you are shelling out to survey a house you might not buy. Same thing here. thumbsup

If the car is "not as advertised" when you arrive to pick it up you don't have to buy.
