Just looking around at prices for used vx220 2.2 and it seems that most are over book price. I am looking for one aroun 11-12k but the ones at this price are 2001, which seems a lot for the age and mileage. What do folks think? I need to buy from a dealer as I have to trade in , so am prepared for the price hike there but think 13k for a 2001/2 with 40k is a bit steep? Thanks for any thoughts. Oh and are prices higher at the moment due to the summer just starting?

book prices on a mondeo = fairly accurate. On a specialist car? Complete crap! Best thing to do is go and look at as many as you can and compare prices for yourself. Plus options and modifications have different values to different people. I don't think prices vary that much from summer to winter - more people wait and sell cars in the summer, so supply vs demand remains pretty much the same year round (but due to volume, cars will sell faster in summer months)

Book prices on VXs are not true reflection on prices IMO. When I was looking to buy, most prices were pretty constantly over Parkers book prices for instance. Depends really on your preference - colour, options that are important to you or low mileage. Best to look and drive as many as possible - difficult, I know in view of limited numbers - and you will eventually find the one for you. Paid £12,750 for May 2002 in March. 23,000 miles Europa Blue with most options - upgraded CD, hard-top, centre brace, passenger footrests, leather. Probably a bit over book but well pleased with the deal. Even got a decent "VX" number plate thrown-in for the price! Good luck :D

Well cosidering they're about 4yrld and cost over 20K new, i would say 11-12k is a bargin.

30k is only just running the fookers in.

I bought my first VX, (an opel speedster 53 reg) in 2005... paid 12,750 well well pleased.. it had no extras tho, and had loads of work done on it, new speedo new suspension bits but before i bought it.. then in feb this year a clown in a trasit wrote it off luckily i insured it as worth 14 grand so after arguments with the MD of the insurance company i got 14025 back and bought an 03 VX NA for 13k straight, 20k on it got it from a Network Q dealer had colour coded hard top, VSE(i think, its black tail and noisy) exhaust all interior options apart from leathers(side pockets, cargo net, mats, foot rest). A centre brace to replace the interior light, Turbo font splitter (i think back aswell if there is one) turbo spiler, potenza tyres, EBC pads (although i hate them) I also got a full network Q warranty (not the after a year upgrade one) which includes a years AA 5* cover for europe and everything. All in all i think iv been really lucky indeed. but 13K for that car with that spec is cheap as chips if u ask me.. prices i dont think have upped but i do think i paid a little too high as the list price for a dealer sale was 12,500 but for the extras i got it was well worth it..

Everytime i come on here someone is whinging about prices

The answer to this is simple... ''If you can't afford one..... don't buy one'' thumbsup

IMO they should be going up in price especially as they dont make them anymore ;)

I wouldn't say Rich was being harsh at all.

If the chap has done his homework he should know the cars fetch those sort of prices.

To come on an owners site and suggest the vx is overpriced/valued isn't going to get much positive feedback is it

12k for a 2001 is a price hike tho (see my post above on what 13k should get you) for 12k private should get a 2002 with all the options at about 25k milage..

the laws of supply and demand come into it....... Is it a sellers market or a buyers market? If its the latter, then the buyer should not have any problem picking up what he considers a bargain. If the buyer is complaining that the market is overpriced then either is not set himself a realistic budget or its a sellers market Mani

I wasn't moaning about the price, I was asking for opinion on if it was overpriced, or if that is what I would have to pay. I can afford it just don't want to pay a dealer more than it is worth.

Thanks for the positive advise from others though.

SO folks recon that 12k for a 2001/2 clean car is about right? I can live with that ;)

  PMSL thumbsup .. Now you've made me feel bad :D :D

It wasn't a dig at you :D , thats why there was a [ ;) ] at the end of it.

The thing is... nobody wants to lose loads of cash when selling, but everyone wants a bargin when buying.

Thats the way it is.

Besides your never going to get a bargin if you buy from a dealer,[unless its a dog thats been sat on the forcourt for months] try selling your car first, then buy privatley.

I would try and sell private first and not buy from a stealer, but i need my car for work everyday and don't have access to another. I know dealer prices are higher but was trying to get an idea on what people thought would be a good price. I am off to a dealer today to see what rubbish price they are going to offer for my car and see if they can source a VX. If I get an ofer I will be posting the deal here and asking what folks think. :)
