Nothing wrong with changing your mounting point positions as long as 3 x points are met:- 1] You fabricate 1 piece for the mounts [no wielding] 2] It is of the same material as the std ones 3] You get a geo done after. Eliseparts sell them - and load of Lotus owners have them fitted. Wielding is a BIG no no! thumbsdown

Yep the rear mounts are definately welded to the subframe, its a no go imo mate. Dont waste your time and energy on it, I'm just going to go for nitrons next spring.

I have to admit I didnt look to see if they were welded on... yes the Eliseparts mounts are for the S1. Seriously though - If I were you I would either:- 1] Wait for the TMS Tubby lowering spring [for aesthetic reasons] 2] Save a few pennies and buy some Nitrons..... Adjustable height so you can slam it how you want - plus adjust it so you can actually drive it properly. [Geo needed in both instances] You have just bought a car that has a reputation for having one of the best chassis around - dont mess it up. thumbsup

whens TMS tubby spring ready then? i dont use the car that much 2K per year so nitrons would be a waste of hard earned cash....i could have another month away for the price of them B)

I had Leda's on my Renault Sport Clio. I know John at Leda fairly well and spoke to him about a vx220 kit this time last year and I think they needed a car in to get some measurements...would be worthwhile but I dont have the time at the moment :(

Gary - Leda's are more expensive than Nitrons... so will not be an affordable option as some people on here think they will be. But they are the creme de la creme of suspension kits for the Clio... so would be a great option for the VX thumbsup PS.. Gary - your Clio was a beast! Any interior pics stripped out????

They will be cheaper than the Nitrons for me ;) I sold virtually every Renault Sport Clio kit for Leda!

...pics of it stripped out on my laptop mate, i'll dig them out for you over the weekend :)

While much can be said about the above (I am amused you believe your relative has a superior knowledge of mechanical engineering than Lotus cars), moving the damper mounting points will not alter the geometry.

Umm!

IIRC raising the top mounting points will raise the static position of the wishbones in relation to the chassis and adjust camber!

Thought this was the main reason why cars required a geo after lowering! :poke:

Which has exactly the same effect on camber as using lowering springs or coilovers.

When I recently had my car in bits, changing a bush, ball joint and shocks. I looked into moving the bracket up by about 10mm because I always thought the car pointed very slight up in the air. Anyway it would have been easy to the do on the passenger side, there are actually three holes in the chassis to bolt this plate on but only two in the bracket, simply drill three holes 10mm lower down the bracket and you have the added strength of three bolts holding it on. Was surprised they were only M8 bolts actually. However when it comes to the other side the brake fluid distribution thingy is mounted on top of the bracket (not wires as suggested earlier). So this would have been raised too and I did not want to add any stress onto the metal brake lines coming out of it. As it turns out replacing the rear shocks has raised the back end and levelled things up a bit.

There nowt wrong with proper DIY on your car, the washer mod was very bad I agree. Lotus vaux etc generally make cars to a budget and to suit regulations and general peoples expectations. If you have not got a clue what you are doing fair enough leave it alone but if you want to tweak something apply some common sense and a bit of mechanical knowhow.

DONT SHOUT

I've done lots of DIY on my car:

ABS cut off switch
Remove pre cat on my old N/A
fit different brake pads and discs
different size wheels
I even chaneged the oil :o
