Alright folks, I'm changing my pads for the first time, does anyone know what type they are? Are they the same as any other cars in the vauxhall range? My supplier has never done vx pads before? cheers Rafa

DO NOT BUY FROM VAUXHALL. Get Mintex 1144 from Performance Brakes Monmouth, TMS, Plans, Camskill etc...

They work about 100 times better, are cheaper, and Vauxhall will fit them. Alternatively, you can save more money and fit yourself - for free! Its not a hard job and there is a guide in the sticky at the top.

I had Mintex 1144 pads fitted on Saturday by TMS at Snetterton, they have made a massive difference over the stock pads and I would never go back. They really give you confidence that the car will stop and they don't squeak.

They really are much better; squeal a bit when for the first couple of hundred miles but relatively quiet after that (in my experience!)

I'm about 600 miles into 1144 ownership, and the squeal is almost unbearable. Fitted with anti-rattle pads and an even covering of copper grease on the back. Bedded in (a number of times - if that's possible!). And they I still sound like a bus when pulling up to a halt. (To the point where my 'funny' mate makes airbrake noises to finish the effect!). On a particularly bad day it can set up such a reverberation through the car the CD skips.

Do work well though. First time I reversed out of the garage after fitting them, I brushed my foot on the brake pedal and thought I'd hit the wall!

That's really strange as mine do not squeak at all, I do agree with the last comment about thinking you have hit a wall though.

I'm having some 1144s fitted today. Looking forward to seeing how much difference they make. Will report back on the squeal factor soon thumbsup

Am I the only one who hasn't noticed a difference in performance after fitting 1144s to standard pads?? I'm starting to wonder if the pads I took off were the OEM ones or not. Do the vxl pads have VAUXHALL on them or anything? My old ones didn't... Were they uprated pads already? I bedded the pads in according to the instructions in the box. What else could be stopping me from experiencing this 'brick wall' effect everone else seems to have from their new pads? :( To be honest, I'm still kinda disappointed with the braking in the VX. My Mintex do squeal like that guy in Deliverance though

Don't know about 1144s, but if they are anything like Pagids, you should notice an awesome difference (unfortunately also the noise and dust).

Trouble with such high performance pads is that, if you use them hard on a demanding track, there is so much energy being converted to heat that you can cook your discs. Needs cooling ducts.

Following a 15 minute test drive
-- yes they squeal, but not too much
-- yes they stop the car more quickly than the OEM "suicide" pads

So overall thumbsup so far

Need to bed them in properly now before a track excursion.

i've had 1144 fitted by TMS about 3 weeks back. Do stop the car a hell of a lot better than what ever was on there before. However the noise when coming to a stop is bad and loud. They have been broken in properly as far as im concened now done about 700 miles of which half is motorway and other london traffic to from work. My theory on the noise is that its largely down to the discs being a warn. The last couple months on the old pads started doing this here an there. What do others with/without this issue think? have you got new discs?

No, don't think it's that.

In the last year or so I've had:

Absolutely no squeal with new discs and new Porterfield carbon-kevlar race pads (0n 300ZX)

Lots of squeal with Pagid RS14s on skimmed discs (Speedster)

Very slight squeal with Ferodo 2500s and new discs (Exige)

As mentioned above mine still squeal like a pig, and I fitted new discs at the same time. Even carefully cleaned the mating faces between the new disc and hub as someone on here (speedyk?) mentioned if you don't do this is can cause vibration. Only thing I think may have not done as well as I could have done is cleaning old dust and dirt out of the caliper, didn't want to get too carried away and damage any seals! Could this cause the problem?

There are some OMP pads on ebay at the moment, any one know what they are like? They seem to be quite cheap but could also be quite rubbish aswell, any thoughts or comments? Cheese....
