I had 1144's all round and new front discs fitted at Thorney's a couple of months back. Followed John's instructions about bedding them in and they squealed horribly! Right up to their first track day, after that they haven't even squeaked. My thinking is that they are designed for more performance than they usually need to give on road so they only really settle down after a proper workout. I had some performance pads on an Opel Manta years ago that would start squealing regularly unless you occassionally gave them a good hard stop. They seemed to develop a glaze where they weren't being used hard enough. Once they have been properly bedded in, try giving them a good hard stop at the end of a motorway slip road or similar (obviously when it's nice and empty and without leaving it so late that it becomes an emergency stop).

What technique did you use to bed them in?

The pads to have are Pagid RS29's.

29's = yellow? If so, have them on the BMW. Solid fade free pedal, consistent from green flag to chequered. Two seasons - half worn. (YCRTA possible a little hard for the road :P )

Am I the only one who hasn't noticed a difference in performance after fitting 1144s to standard pads?? I'm starting to wonder if the pads I took off were the OEM ones or not. Do the vxl pads have VAUXHALL on them or anything? My old ones didn't... Were they uprated pads already? I bedded the pads in according to the instructions in the box. What else could be stopping me from experiencing this 'brick wall' effect everone else seems to have from their new pads? :(

1144s are just an OK pad, they won't give you a brick wall effect.. they just merely slow you down better than OEM. Granted they are considerably better than OEM (especially when hot) but I really don't see what the fuss is about them.

If you want to stop properly then fit Pagids
