What hasnt been changed is the basic Lotus concept. This is still a lightweight, high performance, no compromises sportscar for enthusiasts to use on an occasional basis only. Dont go expecting it to be an everyday roadster like a Toyota MR2 or Mazda MX-5: its far too noisy, uncomfortable and impractical for that.

Typical car reviewer nob... If i wanted comfort i would have spent my money on a BMW.. even tho i would look like a tosser... if i wanted quiet i would have bought a saab and looked like a 50 year old... if i wanted preactical i would have bought a lada and been a doodah... typical fagot review he obviously doesnt like going very fast for very cheap and having women staring at him in fullham high street.. Mincer, rent boy, nonce... simple as that.. not neccessarily in that order.

Steady! :beat: :poke: :9mm: I've also owned a 1500cc Lada although I was working in Moscow at the time. It served me fine down to -30 degrees whilst a number of my colleagues struggled with their imported cars. Also, I don't see why you have focused on the only negative aspect of the review which concludes:

There arent too many genuine five star cars that are available at a bargain price on the used market. The VX220 is probably the best way to take make our label preoccupation work in your favour. Track down a well-looked after example and you will feel superior every time you see a Lotus Elise come the other way. Smugness has never been so rewarding.

I used to think that the vx220 was a noisy, cold, impractical car, until I realised that it was in fact a practical, quiet, warm and safe motorbike....

The MX-5 I have as my courtsey car atm is fecking w4nk compared to my beautiful and very quick VX. I now look like a gay hairdresser with little or no taste. GREAT :blink: Guy does not know cars. He is a typical 'know it all - know nothing' reviewer. Regards, Noble

Did no-one apart from VIX actually read the review? :blink:

He's actually very complimentary about the car.

See the following quotes;

Youll probably receive kudos from true car enthusiasts who appreciate the fact that you werent so superficial as to be swayed by a badge.

the VX220 represents an ideal way to get a top-drawer sportster at MX-5 money

On the right road, in the right conditions it seems as if the Queens highway has metamorphosed into an oversized go-kart track for your personal enjoyment.

With a rest to sixty time of 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 136mph, the VX220 destroys B-roads......... The handling is an education for those who have become used to more bloated fare.

the handling of the VX220 in extremis is more forgiving than an Elise but no less entertaining.

The only negatives I can find in his piece are that it is expensive to fix if you bump it (very true) and that it's not an everyday roadster like an mr2 or mx5. This is also true- while it may be useable everyday by enthusiasts like us there is no doubt that for 99.9% of the population it's far too hardcore to be a daily driver. It's certainly not as practical or quiet as an MX5, and thats all he's saying- not thats its a bad car because of that!

Personally I think thats a good piece which puts the VX in a good light. thumbsup

The VX attracts an even lower quotient of posers and boulevard cruisers than the Elise and you should assume that a goodly proportion of its mileage has been spent with the hammer firmly down.

A very complimentary review I thought overall. I do have another car but find myself using the VXT more and more. Considering selling both and buying a VXR but need to get the G/F on board!

Are some people so insecure that they need to bash other makes of cars that are actually half decent? The MR2 is a fine little car, I had a race instructor take me round Brands in one and whilst they are not mega quick they are nible, fun little cars with a well sorted, albeit softer, setup. Plus it's Totota reliable! The instructor who has raced and driven all manner of cars was impressed with it. The MX5, hairdresser image though it may be, is a fantastic little car and is what started the whole roadster revival. It's a direct homage to Lotus with the Elan being the template for it. It's dynamics, balance, handling are all beatifully proportioned - it's design brief was not to be the fastest or best cornering but was to capture the pure fun essense of historic British roadsters. I believe they achieved that as they are great fun to drive. Plus they are affordable and bullet proof reliable. In my time I have owned one which explains my affection for them, they are what got me into RWD sports cars. It is possible that without the humble MX5 paving the way for the roadster market there would have been no VX.
