As PS3 demands full HD for the total experience, I've been considering getting a small(ish) 16:9 LCD TV WITH 1080p.
I did look at the Sonys but, to be honest, despite all the hype, they still don't look that good to me (even with HD video feed)![]()
Anyone actually bought one yet?
Yep ive got the new Bravia HD .. Ive wired the Xbox 360 to it and its mind blowing. [although its alittle bigger than yours 46"]
I thought the same as you when i first saw them.. basically when you view them in the shop the picture is never that great with them all running of the same ariel

DVDs are also something special to watch on it too.

9830 philips lcd blew socks off the other 2 sets in terms of progressive scan and definition and colour and contrast and brightness.. () gonna get a new set in april after i aquire my ps3
So you don't reckon the 9830 will be up to the task for PS3?
Think this is the successor >Philips<

If your getting an LCD TV, make sure it supports 720p - most ps3 games will want to run in that mode...
There seems to be a lot of confusion about PS3/Bluray and XBox360/HD DVD configuration/needs.
Seems none of the companies have got it sorted.
As I understood it, PS3 wants 1080p and if that is not an option, you will be forced to go below 720p – even ending up at the basic PAL signal...

Also, the whole PS3 software seems crap. People having to go online and update their fresh out of the box PS3 before they can use it. Menus not well thought out, etc. , etc.
OTOH, XBox360 has no HDMI which is apparently suppoesed to be a prerequisite as part of the copyright protection for HD DVD.
Hope it will all be a bit clearer by Spring...

For blue-ray PS3 wants to run in 1080p. Most games want to run in 720p. If you get a set which supports both, you're laughing - most will.
There is some messing around at the minute with downsampling if the set doesn't support certain modes, but that should all be sorted by the time PS3 launches over here.

I'm going for the Sony KDL40W2000 I think.
It gets rave reviews and supports 1080p
I have one of those! Beware though, through component HD (xBox 360) you can only run at 1080i, not 1080p. Still, it looks bloody fantastic.
PS.
I don't actually know the difference between 1080i and 1080p.

the i means interlaced where as the p means progressive.
basicaly the individal frames sent to the screen each second is 50 or 60 (ie 50hrtz tv or 60hrtz)
1080i sends 25 frames that is then doubled (interlaced) up to 50 frames, ie less procecssing power.
1080p sends the full 50 frames a second so is a better picture quality.
its a small thing but can make alot of difference

1080p is "better" because it doesn't flicker like 1080i can. It (1080p) should also be smoother with moving images...
