Ordered and paid for mine this morning. Should be ready for collection on Friday/Saturday, so get the weekend to play around with it. I couldn't get over how many different Sony Bravias there are!! I went for the KDL-40W2000 as mentioned coz it is only the W series and X series that does 1080, thought that if I was spending that amount of money I might as well future proof it as much as I could.

I looked at the Sony 40W2000 looks very nice...

Couldnt persuede the other half though.. she says its far to big for the room!! :beat:

So we had a compromise and bought the next best thing (not 1080 though) i got the 37" Toshiba 37WLT68, loads of connection sockets etc on the back and looks the muts nuts! The picture is excellent aswell both on freeview and normal analogue... I dont watch enough tv to justify skyHD!

Price matched the set with Sound & Vision in Bolton then comet knocked another 10% of the difference and got it for £1120 (Comet list is £1499) i also got the Sony HDRHXD860 DVD recorder with HDD... price matched that again with sound and vison and got for £290!

http://www.home-ente...66?opendocument

for 500 less you could buy the toshiba 42 WLT66
it was out in april this year and cost 2000.00 but as there are so many new ones on the market prices are just crubling, they were reduced to 1499.99 as of november and now u can pick one up for 1100.00 in most stores... they are as good if not better than the sony 40w2000 from what ive seen, well the picture quality is amazing as youd expect from both sets, better still when playing xbox360 etc or a hd dvd, ive seen these on loads of sets... the comparison is when viewing fre to air channels, its when u see the worst kind of input through the same ariel that u can truely compare the quality of sets.. even sets that play only 720p hd are very good quality and prices have come down lots, for example the 50 inch lg plasma from currys is on sale at 1278.00 from 2000.00... if your not going to buy sky hd or -ps3 then id go for that, the other point is to be made that pioneers are on their 7th generation flat screen so even the best on the market will be out of date in approx 3-6 months so your really better off buying a set thats good for say the next 7 years and trying to keep costs low aswell.. 1450.00 is a good price to pay for the sony 40w2000 but i can get 30 percent off any tv so id pay around 1100 for it, but i still wouldnt have one over the new philips

if money isnt an issue this is the best on the market from what ive seen to date.. stunning picture quality... hope this helps u decide

KDL40S201 got it for 890 quid at Pc World. Its running 1080i but i dont think the Xbox puts out in 1080p or at least I cant get it to display. Im crap with stuff like that. All I know is the tv is amazing and is worlds apart from my 6 year old 28" panasonic quintrix (bless her heart).

It might be because it's a 720 panel and doesn't do 1080?
It is £999 at Empire Direct, so £890 is still a good price, especially from PCWorld.

correct but its still a good set, i have seen some sets at 720p resolution way outperform others at 1080i.. simply because it is better at mixing the brigtness and contrast, that is another thing to consider when buying lcd as opposed to plasma...

Its running at 1080i right now (or so the xbox and the TV AV prompt says) and has the setting for 1080p but the xbox wont display it. My girlfriend works there at was 1k originally.

It is so difficult to compare different screens, as the shop settings can ruin a pic and you don't often have the possibility to spend time optimising the picture. Was just idly comparing the Bravia 40" LCD next to a 42" LG plasma in an electronics shop this evening. The Sony had good detail, but contrast was too high (blown highlights, loss of detail in shadows), colder cast, less dynamic range. The LG had a less aggressive contrast but held info in the lightest annd darkest parts, was slightly too saturated and warm. Subjectively, the LD plasma made a more pleasant impression, but which is better able to deliver the best pic I wouldn't like to say. Of course, plasma disadvantage over LCD is risk of burning in, especially if you play the same game a lot. Saw a stunning 65" Panasonic 1080p plasma the other week (a week old and the shop owner was offering it me for just over half the retail price). Superb picture quality from Blu-Ray disc even sat right in front of it, very tempting but that's simply too overpowering for my living room, let alone for use in racing games in my hobby room (don't need more than 37" for this). Still waiting and watching what comes onto the market while I wait for PS3 to arrive (wanted to get a Wii for Chrimbo to bridge the gap, but all sold out)...

I bought the Samsung LE40F71B, surprised no-one has mentioned it yet. I drive it from my media centre PC at 1920x1080 - yum! The PC is about as good an upscaler for DVB-T and DVD as you can get and the set displays it beautifully over VGA with 1:1 mapping. A firmware update should soon allow me to connect my PC DVI to the set's HDMI socket (many TVs dont support this connectivity despite the implied compatibility of the standards) so I am looking forward to that. Also looking forward to sensibly priced HD-DVD and Bluray ROM drives :D Oh and then PS3 obviously! Also worth noting the Samsung is the same panel as the Sony, so unless there is a significant difference in processing (which I doubt there will be for most users), it may come down to your preference of surround, sound performance and any price differences.

Hi.

If you want to buy 1080p display, look for Amoi.
http://www.amoi.com/...asp?menu_id=149
Most models is 1080p, have card reader, internal DivX player etc. I think so it's the best choice for HDtv in Europe now.

Samsung LE40F71B looks to be a cracking set, and most places like currys, dixons etcsell them at 1500.00 so very good vfm.. i get 30% off flat screens from my supplier but cant get them on a weekly basis or he would get in trouble! and i would make too much money off him so i dont take the pi55, but i could pick up one of those for a smidge over 1050.00.. might check it out although ive been offered a lower res 50 inch lg plasma for 950.00 gbp... its a plasma its big and its 720p , not the greatest set around but does justice for its spec, as for the amoi i dont think the 40 inchers do run more than 720p? and there better known for instant noodles! imo lol stick with what u know...

On the 40W2000, you need to connect it via VGA.. The tv only accepts 1080p via HDMI and VGA. Component is "only" 1080i.

I thought that was the case, I purchased a VGA cable the other day and it still won't allow 1080p (unless I'm doing something wrong). Can get 1080 (doesn't state I or P) with it although it is misty. Component 1080i is far superior than what I'm getting with vga. Please help a numptie
