so the lightning yellow special edition is 0.1 slower then a normal n/a

i always thought all n/a's were 5.7 to 60

The yellow paint has a slightly higher drag coefficient.

Two of my friends are trying to persaude me not to get a vx (and not succeeding i might add) on the grounds its not as good as an Exige, not as quick, they don't make vx's any more blah blah blah. One of them has an S2 exige so I guess is biased.

I'm sure the exige is quicker round atrack as its a more hardcore car (imo) but I'm never going to see that so i'm talking about on the road (vx in standard tune)?

Anyway on paper the vx is quicker ( i think), but is this true in reality?

Iain

I am this friend.
So had a S1, S2 135R and now the S2 Exige. All three I use on track.
Putting all bias to one side, I think Iain should buy the VX. He's always wanted one so why not.
The VX is not for me, I'm too much of a Lotus fan.

On track, the Exige is a faster car than the VX220 N/A and Turbo. It is afterall built for the track; sticky tyres etc.
It also look better (sportier and meaner).

A few posts above about N/A keeping up or passing Exiges. This is all down to the driver especially if you're lapping them.

N/A VX is very torquey but remember the S2 Exige is not the K series anymore but the Toyota with 190bhp.

Talk of the Exige not being that quick off cam. Admittedly, the 2nd cam hits at 6200rpm and this is really too high. Lotus are now reflashing the ECU dropping the cam change to 5750rpm which will be a huge improvement.

Comments of a VX Turbo "easily pulling away from an Exige" on road or track is simply not true.

VX is a great car, it was afterall made by Lotus ;)

My Exige B)

Having driven both, my Stage One VXT definitely felt quicker. Not scientific I know just my opinion!

In just over 5 weeks time, I take delivery of my Exige S. Having driven it back to back with my VXT that was Stage 2, Miltek etc, I think in everyday driving - which for me means mostly dual carriage way and a few heavily trafficked back roads - the VX will be quicker. The torque advantage of the turbo engine means instant shove in any gear and I know I'm going to have to exercise the left hand and gear stick to match it in the Exige although no doubt in the right gear at the right time it may have an edge. I've got to say though that the looks of the Exige was quite a large part of the reason to buy (plus I was unhappy at my insurers not knowing about my mods - long story .) The Exige looks cracking in chrome orange, even better in Krypon Green (Speedy K) but as it's my everyday car I've gone for the restrained chilli red. I'll let you know how it feels compared to the VX in March. Fish

Chilli Red is a great colour. B)

Ours isn't a regular daily drive, but we ordered a not so bright colour too because:
A. We wanted it the same colour scheme as our Turbo Esprit.
B. We plan on keeping it for many, many years, and don't want to look like mid life crisis drivers. :D
C. We don't want to limit our market if we ever do sell. If it didn't sell as the classic gold & green, it could easily be transformed with some viper stripes & matching coloured wheels. ;)

From my experience the Exige is quite a bit quicker on track (Knockhill) where the tyres make a big difference. I spoke to an Exige owner last autumn who reckoned the tryes alone were worth around 3-4 seconds a lap. I think the better balance of the Exige will make a difference also. On the road though, I felt the NA Exige was a bit flat below the second cam, it certainly didn't "feel" anything like as quick as the VXT, but of course that is a subjective view. The torque possibly makes it the better road car, but on the downside the standard exhaust note is a bit dull (Stage 2 on an Exige sounds fantastic!). Much though I love my VXT, I'm thinking of moving to an Exige at some point, the VX isn't my everyday car so I'm prepared to sacrifice a bit of driveability for the better on-track performance. In fact the orange Exige above is my ideal spec :)

Done the Exige thing S1 and S2. while I admit they look fantastic there's no doubt in my mind that the Vxt is the quicker car on the road. I went to the dealer with the money to part ex my n/a Exige for an S and just couldn't bring myself to part with the extra cash for what in reality is little gain, however you dress it up. Had they had a cup car or perhaps something with a real lump of extra power perhaps i'd have gone for it but they hadn't so I sold my Exige back to the dealer and walked away without a Lotus for the first time for quite a while :( . Enjoying my VX at the moment and while Lotus keep peddleing car after car out on the same chasis I will stay clear. Hopefully I will return one day but who knows. Steve

VXT + £££ ? ;)

How come all the Scottish S2 Exigers are selling up, is there something I don't know? :D

Seriously, I'm thinking at the moment of selling the VX come the summer when I might get a bit more for it, then seeing what sort of Exige my budget will stretch to. Definitely want to get one with the sports/performance pack as I'd like the harnesses for track use. Orange would probably be my choice of colour too!

I'm not looking to sell but if I was offered money I would consider it.
One other Exige sold on SE but the owner was going abroad.

My 2p If your not fussed about the open top aspect buy an Exige. Edp was stupid enough :P to give me a go in his exige and all i could say was wow. The Exige felt soo much more planted on the road (perhaps due in part to a recent geo), much better build quality (no rattles at all), it didnt feel worth 10 grand more but it was overall a much better experiance than my n/a. As to the on cam/off cam nature of the power delivery its all down to the drivers perferance. Another point to consider is the fact that the exige will hold its value a lot better than the vxt, well looked after 04 plate exiges are only now starting to hit the 21k mark

Don't think I would ever want to sell that car if I was you!

NOOOOOOOOO! I can't beleive that someone mentioned the "Top Gear Track". I can't believe that people fall for it............. The Stig is not one guy, why else would they disquise him and let's not go into it again, do a search. There are a few cars above the VXT that I feel would be slower around the track than the VXT and also some cars below the VXT that would be quicker. It's a crap comparision. I'm not saying that the VXT would be quicker or equal to the Exige (not had the priviledge yet of driving an Exige S1 or S2), however, I feel the gap would be at least smaller than it is.
