The reason why the race cars 'may' run on 18" is that we use slicks and Dunlop slicks (control tyre for the series) are in 18". As it happens we're looking to use 17" (as we want to use the smallest wheel possible that will still clear the calipers. To get them to fit we have cut the arches and added flares. I've never said that 18" won't fit, but you'd be mad to do it. Small light cars want small wheels - look at Caterhams, poseurs go for 17" wheels, all the race/track cars run 13/14" wheels. Whats the point in buying a car known for its handling only to frig it all up for the sake of some 'phat' looking wheels - you want that - go buy a Saxo :P I've no doubt that big wheels look good on cars but for samll lightweight cars its a bit daft. However my reasoning for going for 16" fronts was that I drive on track a lot, hence I needed better rubber, bette rubber meant Yoko's and Yoko's only come in 16" for the front. Simple case of simplest process to get better tyres and consequently better handling. If it doesn't 'look' as good as one on 18" wheels I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. :)

My sentiments exactly. :)

Pity that :9mm: GM marketing :beat: triumphed over Lotus know-how or we would almost certainly have standard Elise 16" with 4 bolt hubs anyway, leaving the way to numerous interesting options open.

Great to hear you're still looking for 5 bolt possibilities, though the lightweight 4 bolt is obviously the way to go in an ideal world – I'll have to see if it's feasible in Switz.

Just a thought. Lotus make the VX220. Lotus S2 is approved in Swiss with 4 bolt hubs. Lotus Exige has apprived Speedline option. A VX220 with 4 bolt hubs ins't exactly out of the question? or are they THAT anal :P

Well, they're very BIG! :D No, seriously, they look great. But would Dymag be interested in making them in 5 bolt VX conform size? And, if they're magnesium, at what price (gulp)?
