water temps are pretty meaningless, its intake temps which are the issue. Iridium plugs will make a minor difference but more in terms of longevity rather than temps, cooler thermostat might make a little difference but not enough on its own to allow higher power. Bottom line is that CC's are really the only way to go, the reason a lot of people don't go that far is that there is a lot of work, for the coupe they're probably overkill (not so much of an issue) but in the VX (where heat is the THE killer) its the best way. Thats not to say they won't help at all, I'm sure they would but a few £££ here and £££ there ofr minor benefits you're better off going for a CC and not needing to do any more. Now I have athe CC I can do pretty much what I want - currently playing with switchable maps ;)

The thermostat and plugs might help prevent detonation for a little longer but are used as more of insurance than letting you produce more power :), would a custom built chargecooler from pace be cheaper?. I'm very interested in this switchable map, whens that on the market? :). Or is that a special on your car only?

Thorney. This is excellent news. I am looking into tweaking the car, but I will take a long time to consider it, (and get the cash together  ). A switchable map is a brilliant idea. You will have seen a post of mine a couple of weeks ago relating to a Boost Controller for the same reason - it would be nice to turn it down from time to time (driving in really crap conditions, or when doing boring motorway stuff). A switchable map would achieve this presumably? Sounds very cool. Just totally out of interest, what is involved with switching the map? Dash switch, or something slightly more involved? Thanks for continuing to do work on this area for us all. Sounds sooo appealing!! Mad.

AmD have a system called 'OneClick' which is a small little box which can swap maps from standard to modded via a single switch. They've been using my car to develop it for the VX (and all other Vxl's). It can be delivered either as a mail order type deal or custom mapped (recommended IMO) and then stored to your own little box. Should be able to show people on the 13th.

Lets hope BBR at Brackley get hold of the VXT, as I have had Escorts and Sierra Cosworths done by them in the past, that do produce the goods. Cars that I covered in excess of 100K miles in without a hitch. Perhaps a shoot out at Santa Pod may be in order to see if all these "Tuners" do produce, as they say " the bullshit stops at the Pod".

If the car is mapped via air/fuel mix then why not have a variable boost controller? If the car is running less air then the ECU should add less fuel. What else would the switch control? variable ignition?
