Has anyone found a decent solution for front mudflaps or even just something to cover the sill area that gets peppered with stones, i have seen various posts in the archives, with some using carbon sheet, and one using exige mud flaps and twintex sheet. I know that you can buy mudlflaps for the elise it seems daft that they never made anything for the 220. So if you have made somthing to cover the inner arch painted area can you please post up to give me some inspiration!

Basically a modified (when you see them it's obvious what you have to cut out) Exige S2 mudflap, with Twintex sandwiched under it. I used the fixings that Lotus supplied (rivets & those horrible plastic screws)
If I ever get around to doing it again, I think I will extend the Twintex so it covers the join in the clam/arch.
I did lightly silicone the joint to stop all the tiny stones getting wedged in there. ;)

Reg :)

Yeah... double sided very strong padded tape. Means no screwing... as that would scare me!

Rob: This looks very interesting. Do you already mount them on the car? If so, do you have any further pictures? Ollster: A solution like this is even better than nothing, but they do not fit completely to the body of the vx. Just at the corner where everybody will look after, there is too much space to the clam :( Sorry. The idea to choose OEM therefore is brilliant :)

The best solution I can think of : BUCKET AND SPONGE . Sorry to be so brutally honest but some things you have to live with. Having said that , its not much help if you live with 70 m of gravel drive to negeotiate. I always thought this problem was a good case for stone chip protection strips. Too early on a Sunday to remember the name... but most people have it attached to the front .

Sorry to drag this back up, i wasnt even sure if i would even post on it myself. But.... I think mud flaps look awful and should be on family saloon cars, rally cars and little girls pink bikes! It clearly ruins the clean lines of the beautiful car. Some clear protection like the stonechip we have on the front and sides is definately the way forward. probably better to buy some cheaply from WH Smith and replace it when it gets tatty. I also would be concerned about drilling holes down there as the quality of the fibreglass is not that great, consolidation is a bit iffy, and water penetrating in between the layers or fibreglass. i wonder if a potential buyer would look for things like this and would go to a car that shows wear but no holes! Any more opinions on this thread?

You would have to be mad to drill holes in the car!

Why? Elises & Exiges have holes drilled exactly the same place.
There is no reason why the fibreglass on the VX inner arch is any different in strenght to the Lotus cars.
It's all down to, do you have the ability to drill or stick.......... :)
