Over the last week or so, I'd noticed my boot lid sitting slightly proud of the rear clam. I told myself that I'd investigate it this weekend. However, I got to work today and it looked decidedly open. Upon closer inspection (couldn't look too closely as I was running late for work anyway  ), it appears that the fastening mechanism has completely detached itself from the boot lid and remains stuck in the receiving section at the rear of the boot (if you see what I mean).

Has this happened to anyone else? Please tell me there's a super simple home remedy - one that can be carried out by a total mechanical dunce. And, if not, is it the kind of thing that Plans/TMS would fix? Or am I faced with forking out for vxl monkeys?

If I read your thread correctly, I think all you need to do is get someone to pull the spring (the bit thats supposed to attach to the boot lid), then pull the leaver inside the car, it should pop out, then it's just a case of screwing the thing back to the boot lid. The big spring thingy on my boot lid always runs loose and makes the boot open, a few twists and its nice and tight again. ....the reason you'l need 2 people is because when the boot is usally closed, the spring is compressed, and when you release the 'receiving part', it pings up and out of the mechanism. Since the boot cant be closed? the spring wont be compressed, so when you release the locking mechanism then the spring isnt go to go anywhere, uless you have someone to pull it out :) thats my theory n e way :P

Cheers mate, that seems to make sense. I'll give it a go at lunch. "The big spring thingy" - now that's MY kind of technical advice :D Thanks again!

While we're on the subject of the boot mechanism. My boot doesn't quite pop up fully when I pull my release lever, so I have to get my fingers into the slight opening and pull it up. I know its probably quite obvious how to fix it, but I've just never taken the time to look at it. Anyone with any ideas? It would be mch apreciated Thanks :) ad sorry for the thread hijack :beat:

Second that thumbsup (It hurts just thinking about you doing that :beat: )

Sorry Lou

SAPD

You may also find it useful to push the lid closed and then move it forward slightly.
Mine used to jam and protude up from the clam, but after a couple turns of the screw its back to fitting flush and no problems since. thumbsup

I always lower it slowly, then press it shut in the middle.

As regards, your second question, I always wipe from front to back.........

damn that means i have to admit i'm wrong!!! :P mainly adopted my method cos i'm short and leaning over the back of the car to press the middle of the boot lid was making my clothes wet and dirty! many years ago when i had a tin can ford ka I was told to drop the bonnet as pressing it would deform it, that must be where my idea has carried on from..... :( sorry to my vx for hurting you, i'll make it up to you this weekend....

I'd do a search I had a similar problem so tightened the cable. There is a small clamp that holds the cable underneath the mechanism/lock behind the silver heat sheild in the engine bay. I reduced the slack by drawing more cable through, when you pull on the lever the boot now pings open as there is more tension. The spring that is fixed to the lid can sometimes work loose and move slightly causing it to catch once released. |It's a matter of carefully repositioning it so it sits more in the centre of the catch. Both these are covered in much more detail on this site. Its an easy DIY job.

I know what you mean Loopylou, my S2000 you used to have to drop it from about a foot and a half as the owners club recommended way to close it as the lid was made from a light metal so if you pressed it shut it could dent it. However that was a solid made Honda and not our cheap plastic tubs. The thought of dropping the lid in the VX makes me whince with pain. You should make it up to your boyfriend as well :D

Well, LoopyLou, to kind of prove you wrong by proving you right ( ), I regularly used to let the boot close by dropping the lid... And look where that got me!
