Its easy enough, it will be a dash top off job and you remove the wiring connector then unscrew. I would leave it plain, I have known people with my car and the key not being able to start it as they dont know what the button is for. I see it that if I ever left the keys anywhere its one last thing to stop a joy rider nicking the car. May be thats just me? Marc

i was looking int othis as a project. I have a lazer etching machine at work. so if you can find a way of removing it or sending me a spare one i would be happy to machine one for you. so you can see the results. I was etiher going to go for "start" or a skull and cross bone type picture as the etching machine can take in standard gif images.

Too right, I remember someone posting that they had they're house broken into and they tried to steal the VX but couldn't figure out how to start it so just left the keys in the car.

I was going to ask about an S2000 button replacement but now after reading Marc's post i definetly think that is a worthy point.

I had a load of replacenent coins made up, but for the reason above decided it wasn't a great idea to put 'start' or similar on it. I did look into getting the vauxhall badge etched onto it (same size as the plate on the dash) but I couldn't find anyone willing to do the engraving. Ended up making plain ones to look like the originals and one with rings on for a bit of a change. With regard to removing them I'm really not sure. They were all made to replace ones that people had lost. There was a thread about removing the front but not sure if it was updated, seem to remember someone saying if you remove the dash etc you can take the button apart, the coin on the top is glued on. I think it was cheshirevx who made a coin with vx220 or similar on it which was glued on over the existing coin, did look good but then made the button stick out quite a way. If you end up making some I can pm you a very basic CAD drawing to show the shape and size of a coin that works. Rich

relocating the button.... WTF... If it was like a normal car then having the keys would allow a fast start, the fact the vx has a button means naff alll imho. hell aston/jag/volvo etc get away with a start button in plain sight lol

I would like to replace my starter button with one in black, or red to match the paintwork. Silver reflects on the rear screen too much now i have had the rear window tinted.

Starter "coin" - wait long enough, it'll fall off on its own!
