Ive been to a few sachs distributers and been through their sachs catologues and there is not a mention of opel speedster, lotus elise or vx 220...... so does this mean that the sachs setup that is avialble from plans, is a plans only setup? please say its not... a bit of competition is always a good thing lol

Don't think so, pretty sure TMS can get them too and probably anyone else that wants them. I was told that they are a good replacement for the stock springs but if regular track work is the aim they might be a tad too soft. If it's just to lower the ride and for the road/ a few track days, they should be a good compromise though thumbsup

its to replace my failing std suspension :s the spring platforms are corroding away nicely. might go spax since the sachs are uber cash from plans and i cant seem to find a supplier locally that will do me a non recipted cash deal lol i contacted KW a few days ago and got this Thank you for your enquiry. KW produces an aluminium chassis Variant 2 (Rebound adjustable damping) coilover kit for the Opel Speedster. The kit will lower the car 0-40mm front and rear. The suggested retail of this kit is £950.00 Inc. VAT

I got my Sachs from Plans, £650 + VAT thumbsup

Judging by the box they arrived in, it seems Plans get there stock from http://www.racepads.co.uk/

They are listed under the Sachs website under Opel Speedster, although it takes a lot of searching! I actually spoke to the distributor today to find out the spring rates - 60N/mm & 80N/mm (335 / 445 if my maths are correct).

I get 342.8 and 456.8 lb/inch, from a conversion factor of 1 lb/inch = 1.7513e2 N/m,

It helps to have a data book full of conversion factors on your desk.

[/quote] Cheers - I thought my maths might of been slightly out. I was under the impression the were quite soft (seem better ride than std), but seem to have quite hard spring rates. You can find them under the Sachs online catalogue (http://webcat.zf-tra...index.asp?SPR=1 - the language can be changed to English at the bottom), and search for Opel Speedster. The actually dampers had Opel Speedster / Lotus exige labled on them, although they don't seem to list them for the Exige?!

Been out for some of the day on Sachs and I'd agree, they do feel quite soft compared to Nitron, might be an option for people who want to keep the ride rathaer than wanting something more track focussed? Not finished testing yet and KW's go on next so will keep you posted.

from race pads they are £650+vat and a lead time due to production hold ups lol..... he said i could squeeze free delivery on 5 sets but no more discount than that due to them being fairly tight on cost.... spax it is then. not paying more than £600 on suspension as it will rarely go near track and as std its decent enough for most people......

I've got spax on mine due to the rear shocks being donald ducked and vaux wanting somthing like £480 for the pair. If I was going to replace them now I'd prob go for some 2nd hand 111r or exige suspension and put up with the ride hight increase as it you fit adjustables you have to then pay around £150-200 to get them setup properly, but the VX does look better even droped 25mm

how are they in terms of rusting on the adjustment threads and the rebound knob seizing? and how many miles have you done thus far? had an idea about either using that road push bike chain lube that is waxy and dry but does the job, or covering the whole shock in a few layers of liquid latex to protect it (although it water got in ti would have even better rusting abilities lol)

Is that right 650 + vat i was thinking about getting them when i am down at plans in July where has value for money gone. I thought i would buy them and put them on myself but if the price is the above then the quote i got for fitting and setting up is not that bad.

seeing as there is only about £200 of parts in coilovers i dont see why they should cost much more than £500 lol. but im a cynical automotive engineer lol.

Mine have been on for a nearly a year and 7500 mines including alot more winter miles than I envisaged.

The rebound knob is doing fine no problems in adjusting at all, the hight adjustment threads are looking abit scummy and there are a couple of places that seem to be starting to show some rust.

As a benchmark I paid £500 in sale from motorsport world.

If you knew how much the bits for a turbo cost compared to the aftermarket price :D

But you couldn't pick up a few bits of metal and build your own kit so that is kind of irrelevant... I doubt the VX will get on track much, so i am tempted by the Sachs kit, but my biggest concern is that it will be rusty and crap within a year. I've aftermarket suspension on all of my cars and they just don't last, where as the Nitrons are made from aluminum and are generally very well made. I guess i will make my decision when i'm sitting in a ditch after my spring platforms completely dissolve
