The 1144s are a great upgrade and good value. But with no other brake changes, the stage 4 can really test them - and your nerve - to the limit. And that's without trying to drive like a complete loon.

Eliseparts are currently offering me Alu bells or whatever you call them for the VX220 as they've just had some made up for some foreign guys. £300 for two. These are their own ones, not AP as far as I know. I'm not convinced that sticking these on standard calipers would be worth it (fitted at the back), as I don't track at all. However my discs have worn out so I'm a little tempted. Ta, Tim

We did some testing with non AP disks and I have to say even the more inexperienced drivers noticed a distinct drop in performance compared to AP, sad as AP are twice the price. We also also with Perf Friction but the tolling costs made them just as expensive as AP's so little point.

On the road? Interesting. The Elise Parts discs (if that's what you're referring to) must be really sh*t then. On a hot day with decent tyre grip £25 camskill discs will generate way more than enough braking force than even wide tyres can EVER cope with. I have photo evidence of the front of my car almost hitting the deck on a number of occasions and that's with the brakes nowhere near their limit.

No doubt the alu belled items have better heat dissipation than std steel items but I'd be surprised if your inexperienced test drivers were able to safely generate enough heat on the road to experience brake fade.

AP discs and brake pad combo may offer better feel, I don't know as I've never tried them, but brake performance is ultimately about stopping power and resistance to fade. I've had Eliseparts aluminium-belled discs on my car for a couple of years now. I can lock the wheels at 120mph plus and have never had a problem with brake fade using these on track with RS14 pads.

In France, we used to said that a few centimeters make some difference, but in UK only two mm make difference (disks diameter from 288 to 290 mm) :P

OK, to clear up the pricing of Plans AP discs. 295 AP disc, bell, bolt, and spacers for both sides, front only £544.48 supplied for a pair. This includes VAT, but not fitting or carriage. Replacement rotors are £151.39 each including VAT, and we would recomend replacing bolts at £14 each kit (1 per side) including VAT. Yes, I know our website price is slightly more, but if I changed all prices as and when supliers did, I would constantly be changing website prices and not be working!! John @ Plans
