As an offshoot of the >What Na Backbox< thread, I've created this thread to try and consolidate some information about the little-known Janspeed offering.

What we know so far:

didn't someone once say that Janspeed actually made the Vauxhall sports box?

Elise forums seem to rate the Janspeed although say it is very loud.

(From the Elise FAQ) Janspeed is loud and raspy, it's also relatively small & easy to fit. This seems to be one of the loudest exhausts ... The Janspeed stainless steel exhaust is "for track use only".

(From Janspeed) We do manufacture an exhaust system for the VX220, but not for Vauxhall direct.  We retail them at £319.14 plus VAT and the Sports Car retails at £238.28 plus VAT.  Both are in stainless steel and have life time warranty.

I've asked for a photo of the exhaust system and have got:

I have passed your email to Tom Ross our Technical Director, who will come back to you with some additional information.

So we shall have to wait and see. if anyone lives near Salisbury where Janspeed are based, perhaps they could pop in, take a few photos and get some more info? if anyone has one of these suckers already fitted then lets hear from you!

As I said in the other thread, it might be worth trying Sinclaire's as well, as I think they might well supply it. Most importantly, we really need to know how loud it is. My guess is fecking loud!

I think you'll be the first board member to have one :)

Where are you getting it from and getting it fitted? How much have you been quoted? Are you going for the full system or just the backbox?

I've had an email from Tom Ross who is Janspeed's technical director. I think what you've posted are the power curves, but the DB and photos should be a useful edition to the backbox table.

We will be back to you shortly with all the info and photo's, I have power curves and DB readings I'm just trying to get some photo's

I'm still looking for a centre/catalyst section for mine but I'm still trying to decide which brand to go for.

I'm possibly posting this in the wrong place but I read somewhere something about who makes the vauxhall sports exhaust,on my standard backbox there's a small plate reading CLF,does anybody have the same plate on sports exhaust? Cos CLF make Magnex exhausts for the baseball cap on backwards brigade & more importantly Micron exhausts for motorbikes! Just a thought. :drink:

That's some handy info :)

If anyone is about to fit the sports exhaust can they take a look and see what it's got stamped on it?

I've still not heard back from Janspeed yet with the photos, but it's looking much less likely that they are the manufacturers :(

Booked in for fitting on Friday (unless Lance Owens refuse to do warrenty work coz of mods) and will post all the info i can. Getting backbox and cat replacement (200, but considered there 100 version, but it boarder on MOT failure). With respect to the power graphs they are from the wheels which is why they seem low. By doing some number crunching you can convert them to flywheel (every day's a school day!). I am going to try to get them to do a before and after RR test but I doubt they'll buy it!!

If they want more of the board members here to buy them, they should do a before and after, because if the results are good, it'll tempt more people!

Righty then, sorry for the massive delay but I had to send car in for its last warrenty work. My Janspeed report so far....... Drove to Janspeed in Salisbury to get exhaust fitted, they said it should only take a couple of hours but it ended up taking all day (much cursing from their mechanic) - very glad i didnt opt to fit it myself. Drive back (and most of the driving since) has been pretty tame as road conditions not great (and metal on metal front brakes) Just before I handed it to Lance Owen for warrenty work the engine light came on, they looked at why and it is the O2 sensor - which they wouldnt do due to the non-standard exhaust. They reset the sensor but after about a day the engine light came back on :( I'm gunna ring Janspeed to (hopefully) get them to sort it. Now I have some brakes I have actually been driving properly and I love this exhaust. You can definately feel the power differnence and the sound is awesome (I love tunnels!!). My missis hates it as allegidly its made my driving more aggressive!!! I will attempt to get a recording and stick ot on here (bear with my technological skills). Weights main box = 6.6kg cat resin = 3.8kg tails = 1.36kg link pipe = 0.45kg total=12.25kg This is the hole system. I managed to get a RR but only after the pipes were fitted unfortunately. The results were 116wbhp (how do you convert that?) but the test was a bit rushed so I'm not sure I trust it. I do have piccies but am having trouble inserting them.....will try another time.

Sounds pretty sweet, but it would be good to get that O2 senser issue knocked on the head. Let us know what Janspeed have to say. Ben

how do you convert that?

You need to know the transmission losses.

Normally around 30bhp for a 2WD car, but i'm not saying that is spot on for the VX.

Spoken to Janspeed this morning, and they seem to think its the sensitivity of the Lamba Sensor and that it just needs a different resistaance wire (or something like that). Overall they seem pretty onside and willing to help. Just looking at the NA tuning results topic, is this wbhp ok on my car? they reckon standard is significantly higher. But the Janspeed test car also had similar results to mine - can different equipment be calibrated differently?

Have you got the Lamba Sensor issue resolved yet?

Errrrmmmm........ I've had a thread asking about this, I took it to Janspeed who replaced the sensors. I then drove it to London and got ECU reset, giving me a happy car........ :D Until I filled it with Texico fuel and the light came back on..... Unfortunately I have just started a secondmant (err...spelling is toss, I mean an industrial loan of me!) to a company up in Birmingham direction (non other than AML - DB9 production line :D ) so won't be able to skive work to get Janspeed to look at it again, possibly for 3 months :( Apart from that I love the new exhaust and really like the tad extra power

Sounds like Janspeed is a no no then. I hope someone from the company looks at this board.

...which rather leaves a hole in the 'excellently loud exhaust system with sports-cat' market.

:(
