Was about to order a tubby roof seal, as mine is peeling away about 6" each side Vauxhall wanted £152+vat, so £178 Autovaux wanted £116+vat, so £136 Anyhoo... I was in the Lotus garage earlier oggling the new supercharged Elise and noticed they'd changed the design of the roof seals It has a very similar seal across the top, with the same 'cups' as the tubby, but they have also changed the seals at the front of the window (where it slides up and down) and they have added a stip down the doors to channel any additional water that creeps through down to the bottom of the doors. I asked for a price and for all 5 items (ie main seal, two front window seals, and the door mouldings) it came out at under £100+vat - bargain! The main seal alone was £63+vat Has anyone got these fitted  - I'm just hoping it all fits!

Are the door ones like these?

If so, i got these sorted under warranty... and fitted myself... dead easy... you have to use superglue to hold them in place... Just make sure you remove all the old glue and rubber clean up nicely then you will have no probs.. thumbsup

He did say that you don't need the strips that run from the top to the bottom of the doors, they're just a nice extra; but Lotus do say you must fit the new bits at the front of the window when using the new top seal :)

I fitted these as a warranty item.. to be honest you must do yourself! I know someone who had his fitted by Vauxhall under warranty, then ended up using sicker flex (sp?) and that ended up sticking everything together including his window... so you can imagine what happend nxt!! DOH!! I fitted the new turbo style roof seal, the front bit only with the wings to catch the water on each side. When i fitted these (the 2nd set as the same vauxhall garage as the chap used above, fcukd the first attempt up1) they botched it... so took the car back and got another set of seals and fitted myself.. Removed what they fitted.. and found they hadnt bothered to remove all the old glue etc from the original N/A seal.. so with some decent tar and glue type remover set about removing everything (took ages!) and also had to use the dremel in places as they had tried using super glue!! Anyway put the seal on, heated the dbl sided tape up on the new seal, and (touch wood!) they havent come of yet! After the above i decided to do the later style door mirror seals myself, garage supplied f.o.c. as its part of the water ingress warraty recall, again took my time removing all the old crap, fitted in the seals and got them sitting right, then used super glue (which is what vauxhall said in the field remedy..) to hold them inplace... blobbed glue onto a small flat screw driver the peeled seal away and then wiped the glue on, did this all the way round... its like anything VX, b patient and take your time... Once these were done i fitted the channeling down from this new mirror seal to the bottom of the door, job done.. (i wouldnt do away with this part as the water could run on to the door trim..) Any questions pm me! Cheers Nick chinky chinky

Mandarin: Thanks - this looks very good. Makes way more sense for me to get these than mess with my tired old NA seal.

Couple of questions:

I understand the ones on the tops of the doors need gluing on but what about the main seal - does that have self adhesive tape on?

Why are there 5 parts? I am abroad at the mo but IIRC the car just has one main seal plus what's on the doors.

The 5 parts are the main door seal (1-off), the windoe chasers (2-off), and the stips that run from the chasers down the door (2-off)

The chasers need to be glued in place at the top of the mirror base, but the strip type parts all come with adhesive strips

If you look at njc's pic, you can just make out that there are two seperate parts in the picture

For anyone who has had theirs peel off a little (i.e. Guy) , I used some extra strength double sided tape from B&Q does the job really really well thumbsup

I've replaced all of my seals, but I put the old ones back on as they were in pretty good condition. It's an absolute pain in the arse of job and as a dealer, not a job I would want to do.
