Worked really well. I usually use Auto Glym but decided to give the Mer range a go. Mixing the polish in with desolved shampoo seemed really stupid but amazingly it really works. Does this mean I dont get to polish the car,,, ever ? :D

know what you meen mate, I got bored at the weekend and got the Autoglym out to some of the cars in the showroom, much better than that cheap nasty wax the valers uses. Not tried the Mer stuff yet, is it better?

Ive used it once and found it excellent. Still need to dry it with a leather but seems to give a deeper shine than before, its as if its been polished. If youve time try some against the Auto G and compare the results. Dont know what they put in it but it works. :D

I always thought the general consensus was that in the context of our cars, mer acts like a paint stripper.

>Swissol<, rah rah rah!

It's unimaginably ace, and available >here<.

Craps on all others (with the exception of 'proper' zymol).

I was told by a body shop once to avoid Mer like the plague :( :( It is a german industrial waste product and some bright spark though of a way to flog it..... :D Not sue if this is true..... but since then I've stuck with AutoGlymn :groupjump:

A friend convinced me to buy all the Meguiars gear, seperate polish, wax blah blah blah. Spent quite a bit on the stuff and but I have to say the black ColourMagic stuff I bought from Halfords last summer is the cats pyjamas ;) and way cheaper. One good point about Meguiars is their cloths and polish application sponges. They are really excellent once you've got over the shock of parting with a tenner for a cloth. They make the job much much easier.

I use zymol and its ace, you get a real deep shine out of it and no white powdery deposit and it smells luvely :D . The only problem with it is its so time consuming and its not cheap, i think my starter kit was about 130 quid and some of the exclusive stuff is 1000's :o . And also you feel at one with the car because you apply by hand so feel every bump and imperfection. Buy it you wont be dissapointed.

*ahem* I use Halfords de-ionised shampoo followed by Turtlewax color magic and my VX looks spectacular, as any who have seen in the sun will attest. But y'know I've never seen a VX that DIDN'T look spectacular when it was clean with the sun out ! Perhaps we could clean them with old snot rags and they'd still be lovely ? :D

I've heard mixed reports about Mer - I've heard some people rave about it and some people call it a sack of shite. For my Calibra I use Autoglym Super Resin polish and top it off with Turtle Wax gloss guard, it's like glass after that lot. B) My mate bought all the Meguiars stuff, only to lean against his CTR whilst polishing it and leave handmarks all over the place   :beat:

I'm worried now - I've used Mer since I've had the car (about 9 months now). It seems to do a good enough job. Haven't had any complaints yet - although it does turn the black plastic bits white. This is probably down to User application though :beat: I've switched to AutoGlym car shampoo - I think I'll change to the Polish as well now. Cost me £18 for a small bottle of Mer as well :9mm: Woody

The short answer is "yes", but as with all things the law of diminishing returns for your pound holds true so it all depends on if you think it's worth it. It also takes me about 6 hours to do the VX (took 7.5 for the Scoob) but it is mirror shiney and with a fantastic depth on metallic paint. Not only does it make your car's paintwork feel 'soft' it smells great too, sort of coconut and banana :)

I got the Teflon starter kit and you only need to do the full treatment every few months (i do mine every 6 months) and then just top the wax up every other wash.

There was a Scooby owner in my office who put me on to it, I thought he was nuts to spend that much on wax but when I saw his car it blew me away.

Well I'm afraid I just use Turtlewax liquid wash with polish (the green stuff in the white bottle) as it was an Auto Express best buy. £2.99 from Halfords and leaves hardly any smear marks :P Also swear by Autoglym fabric hood cleaner, £19.95 for cleaner/protector and application sponges B)

Mer is pretty much industry standard for polishing modern glider bodyworkwhich is the same glass-fibre structure covered in gel coat that you see on the VX. I've never tried Mer on the car but you can bet your life that people wouldn't use it on their wings if it ate glass-fibre. For me, I've not seen anything better than AutoGlym high resin polish and gloss guard. And they window cleaning stuff is ace too! Ben
