I know this is off topic but please bare with me; The car is a 51plate and by the looks of it a tidy motor with 41K on it @ £8995 Now I kind of think that VX220 prices have steadied and they are not going to depriciate much more as most of the value has already been lost. So my question is if I continue to look after the car and not do too many miles do you think it will still be worth say around 6K in 2 years time?

It could be wishful thinking on my part but I would hope that if the car is basically sound, is well looked after and serviced and does not have massive mileage it should be worth nearer £7.5k in a couple of years. It all depends on supply and demand at that time. chinky chinky

IMO the elise price will keep the VX price boyant. The cheapest S1 lotus elise (10 years old, 50k) is currently £7k on autotrader :)

BTW, i used to own "VO51 WTP" - the majority of these VO51's were registered as 1st owner to vauxhall

Im surprised the values have dipped below £10,000 for good ones.

The VX is a very rare and striking looking car, many are getting totaled so the number will be dropping.

No one can predict future values, especially with all the talk of recession, but Im sure for the next few years I cant see the values dropping below £7500, they may even firm up again if people get their confidence back.

If ever there was a car that you could buy and not lose a load of cash in depreciation it has to the the VX right now, as I said, Im surprised they have dropped as low as they have.

The older Elise's very rarely sell for below £6000 if they are proper, and the VX has the advantage of being fewer in numbers.

How come Vauxhall would have owned it first out of interest?

Lots of manufacturers pre register cars to raise sales fgures, these cars are then released to dealers as "ex managment" or "demo" cars at a reduced cost.

I'd negotiate the price to try and get it for no more than £8.5k. I've seen 03 models sell for under £9k with FSH from Vauxhall. Plus that front plate looks great i.e. prob illegal size and might not pass MOT so you can definately knock of £10 straight away. :)

Keep umming and ahhhing and saying your worried about one thing happening or another, and look for some others that are for sale on autotrader and say that your looking at them too, mention stuff thats better on the others n they should keep dropping the price or giving you extra free stuff. My GFs car was for sale for 9k at peugeot n we got the guy down to 6900. Try getting free services or free MOTs for as long as you have the car

Decide what deal you are willing to do before you go in and then be prepared to walk away if they dont give you what you want. There are more vx220s around than customers so dont let them fool you into thinking they have lots of people interested. If they offer what you want then ask them to hold the car for 24 hours while you consider the deal and check finance etc. This gives you time to double check everything and make sure that you dont get caught out!

If you snooze, you will lose. Someone else will buy that car at that price Remember you are buying from a dealer, and a network Q one at that You will have all your statutory rights with you and the warranty on top if you have problems You may get a cheaper one if you buy privatley but if it goes bang on the way home, no comebacks

Maybe. I'd do my homework on your car if you are tading in to. Then negotiate a discount on the VX and know what your car is worth. Check online for some valuation sites. Check on sites like www.webuyanycar.com for a free offer on your car so you know you have a fallback.

When I bought my VX from a dealer I got the VX price down by a few hundred quid then starter to barter on my trade in which I got up £600 from his initial offer (which was less than www.webuyyourcar.com and I had the paperwork on me to prove it!).

Good luck.
