I know a black windscreen surround must be available from Vauxhall cos the LY has one. Does anyone know how much they cost? I also think the windscreen surround is the same as the elise one - and they're all black - but I'm not sure. Does anyone have the definitive answer? If so, it maybe cheaper from Lotus, you never know. I want one! Does anyone know how easy (or not) they are to fit? Thanks in advance for your kind help y'all. Dean

Goofballs has one on his black VXT but I think he did it himself (or got someone to do it) rather than getting a new one fitted. Shame the gallery isn't working as he has some good pics in there.

Goofy, is this true? If so I admire your taste and judgement. Are you happy with it? Was it difficult to paint? What did it cost if you don't mind me asking? Can't wait to see pics in the gallery when it's up and running again. Takes all the risk out of it for me as mine is black also.

I'm pretty sure the surround is bonded to the windscreen i.e. you have to get a new windscreen to get the black surround. Unscrupulous types might go outside right now and throw a brick through the window, claim on insurance, pay the £50 windscreen excess and ask for a black replacement. Other, more honourable types, would just paint it themselves, but it is a soft and flexible material which might cause some issues. :) When I get a replacement grille/V i was going to paint/spray my windscreen surround in satin black. There are some bits just below the front clam which look like a pig to paint unless the front clam has been removed. The Lightning and forthcoming VXR both have black windscreen surrounds so windscreen companies should be able to get hold of them. There are a few other threads about windscreen replacement and the black surround. Ben

Had mine painted with the same black sapphire finish as the bodywork. I loved it. It made the car look less 'toy like' and more purposeful. I don't know about costs, I had it done during a crash repair free of charge. Pity the pics are not on the board. I will try and attached them when I get home. If you go to the picture section of the www.myspeedster.ch website you will see a red VX with a colour coded windscreen surround and hard top, this picture helped me to decide to go for it. cheers

the LY black surround is elise s2 screen. think carefully before you damage and claim for the screen - they don't stock them at the likes of autoglass. so it would have to be ordered....

Has anyone else painted or had their windscreen surround refitted. I have seen a lovely red Opel Speedster that has a red hardtop and red windscreen and would love to do the same kind of thing with my car when I get it. Goofballs, have you got any pics of your black VX up yet? I would love to see it. Thanks, Andrew

I have put on the opel speedster turbo badges since then, I just need the hardtop now. The hardtop is the last thing and then I will be happy bunny :groupjump: cheers

Goofballs, your car looks stunning. Do you mind if I ask where you had your windscreen surround painted? I would like to find out more about how difficult it is to do this and what the cost might be. Many thanks, Andrew

I was told, when on a factory visit to Lotus, that the screen is manufactured in Brazil and is then sent to Belgium to have the surround bonded on. It is then sent to Lotus. :o :o :o :o

Had it down all free, including the alloys when I decided to play pinball with a couple of armco barriers a few months ago. Should be very cheap though, I would guess at £200 for a cash transaction jobbie or £300 at a normal body shop. cheers
