EGT sensors tend to be K type thermocouples that sit in their own bosses... Now assuming you are ditching that p*ss poor excuse for a turbo/manifold for a real one, then you can get the bosses welded into the manifold. imho you should have one in Cylinder 3's runner and one post turbo. Have a switch so you can use one display for both. I bet for the money a stage 6 would cost you could simply do a decent home build for less :D and have a mapable ecu to play wiht yourself to save going back everytime you change something.

I have seriously considered a full rebuild myself, but I think there is a BIG risk that I mess something(s) up and end up with a dead engine or one that won't work as it should. I simply dont have enough practical experience to start such a project :( I've been following John Faulkners complete engine/box swap/tune and even though he is unemployed, its taken him ages to get his car running... I fear the same or worse for myself if I tried to tackle the project on my own. If I knew some good mechanics/enthusiasts locally who'd be willing to help (possibly for a small fee), Id be more tempeted. Sadly the SW area seems to be devoid of such knowledgeable people :(

i always run octane booster on track as its the most extreme driving i do. I dont use it to necessarily get max advance, but to limit detonation. I suppose the ECU moves the advance as far as it can anyway Re courts - they only have a sainsburys locally for better fuel so map to 97ron

yeah, if you like Cancer (nasty stuff) :poke:

one of the guys over on scoobynet did some back to back testing with (i think) a 10% mix of toulene/methanol (50/50) & 99 octane V Power against 105 octane race gas and couldn't achive any better results BHP wise with it IIRC so it's pretty potent stuff!

Yea SizTenBoots, I knew about the octane boost from Halfords was in .1 % increments. Still, I do feel it made a noticable diff. Tonight will be the acid test though, as I will be increasing ocatne by approx 3 points (as opposed to just 0.3 yesterday) because.... I have just bought 25 Litres of Methanol this evening and will be incrementally adding it to the VX and non scientifically testing it by driving it to see the diff. I spent the whole day (at work ;) ) reading up about octanes etc. The Methanol I have bought is 114 octane. I will add 5% Methanol to the current (guesstimated) contents of the fuel tanks and then do an initial test drive. If that goes well without the EML coming on or turning me into a human fireball, I will increase the mixture to 10% methanol and do another run. I rang up Jon at Courtenays today and he thinks the ECU should respond positively, though he couldn't say by how much. He has agreeed to discuss the matter with Stephan Klasen and come back to me about the maximum mix % that is worthwhile before the engine management can't advance the ignition any more to take advantage of the higher octane. Apparently Stephan runs Methanol as well... so I follow in the footsteps of 'the master' ;) In the long term, I could get the car mapped permanently for, say 102 octane arbitrarily, thus allowing me to get the full potential out of the engine using the new fuel mix. However, I am in dodgy territory as I only have standard internals and may blow the engine up with too much torque/power *gulp* Also, I would incure possible detonation if I had to drop to 99 octane again. Just waiting for the traffic to abate before I go out on the ring road....
