Before Courtenays adjusted the pulleys etc and fitted a 1270 belt, the car had a 1300 belt and squeeled (belt slipping), Got it all set up at Courtenays and within 100 miles the belt was squeeling again. Done 230 miles now (it was 210 getting home) and already the squeel cant really be ignored. It startes at 3000 (where you are a lot of the tie, particularly in town) and I assume the noise is then drowned out by exhaust/sc etc. All you sc guys, Courtenays said it might be the standard belt adjuster bearings going? but the noise is it is without doubt the belt, so do I have to get it aligned again, or any other suggestions. Its a shame Courtenays are so far away or else I would just take it back. Martin s ps Why is it that the first thing I have to do after any garage gets my car, is jack it up and fit the diffuser properly. Every time it leaves here, silent, every time it comes back rattling and loose.

I had exactly the same symptoms. Definitely worth reversing the belt (if it's showing any wear) and reseating the belt on the supercharger pulley as Back-on-Track did for mine.

that squealing was a serious low point after all the hard work we did fitting the stage 2 :beat: I do hope 'Back on Track' can sort it thumbsup

Its a 1270 5 rib belt. It was fitted so that its on te left hand side of the top pulley (same as Matts) and I even wonder if its just rubbing on the sides, not sure why they dont fit it on the middle. I know Matts was moved from left to the right side. Ther squeeking starts when you start the car (and the tickover goes up and down for a bit), then after a couple of minutes, the squeeking goes (it does really just sound like the blet), and tickover settles, then after the engines hot the proper squeeling (which is without doubt the belt) comes back. No obvious power loss just embarassing. I guess I'll get it booked in to BOT, seems sort of wrong doing that though when its started on the way back from another garage whod just set it all up. martin

And same as mine. thumbsup

PS I guess if it was in the middle it would wander and get out of alignment.

BoT sorted mine as I happened to be in there for a geo session before heading off to France and it was getting progressively worse when Stefan took it out for the test drive. Luckily, they were familiar with an SC'd VX as they'd obviously messed about with Max's car on many an occasion. Ideally, you'd definitely want to get it back to Courtenay to look at it and adjust where necessary. But, given your location, that obviously isn't easy (there was some doubt when I left BoT as to whether the car would make it to Ashford where I was staying overnight before grabbing the Chunnel). Just make sure that whatever BoT/whoever do, they've spoken to Courtenay's and got Jon's blessing and don't let them stick a bolt through the centre of the supercharger pulley, as it's not meant to have one.

Definitely worth fitting a new belt tensioner as Courtenays have suggested (it's easily accessible by removing the offside wheel and liner), as that won't hurt and combined with moving the belt during fitting, may solve the issue.

Because my belt had very heavy wear across 50% of the surface of the belt for the entire circumference, I think mine was definitely down to the alignment of "something" putting more pressure on one side than the other, as opposed to a lack of tension. Clearly, yours might be different but the symptoms are very similar.

Thanks for that link matt. I've bought the tensioner, just dont know if I have the skills to fit it. You dont sound like you thought BOT really knew what they were doing but as Courtenays isnt really an option may have to try my local guy. Martin

No. sorry if it came across that way, as it wasn't meant to (with regard to BoT). The only thing they did which, as it transpires, they shouldn't have done, was to stick a bolt in the hole in the middle of the SC pulley (which Max's car has but Courtenay's no longer fit). Jez recognised the mis-aligned belt the second he had the arch liner out and was confident that shifting it on the pulley would sort it. I was all set to limp home when they pulled the belt off as their advice was to not risk France and getting stuck. They sorted it and the noise vanished instantly but I was stuck with the old worn belt on the car. They reckoned that if I drove to the hotel (80 miles) and the squealing hadn't returned by that point, that France was worth the risk. As it was, they were spot on and 1000+ miles later, still no noise. My comment about speaking to Courtenay's first if somebody is going to mess about with the alignment is just a point of caution. To make sure you're armed with the right information and that Jon is aware that somebody is potentially changing something slightly, in case there are any issues later that might affect any future support from Courtenay's. Just better to be safe than sorry. thumbsup

Sorry to jump in asking for advice, but it seems relevant-ish. Courtney sent me the new pulley arrangement after I have repeated belt issues last summer. Along with the pulley there was a 1300 belt. A few weeks later another belt arrived, and I assumed they had sent me a spare. Only just got around to fitting it and noticed the second belt is 1270 and I was wondering which one I should go with. I'm guessing that 1270 is a revised version after slipping issues, but just want to make sure.

No idea what size the belt is on mine (Courtenay Stage2 with original pulley) as the printing has all but worn off due to the alignment problem I had. Must speak to Jon on Tuesday and get a replacement (and a spare) to put on whilst the engine is out.

a 1300 belt was sent out due to the 1270 belt being incorrect. the way you fit the 1270 belt is buying taking the charger off and putting the belt on and then bolting the charger back down again. i have a 1290 belt on at the moment and that is working fine at the moment also have a spare 1290 incase my belt snaps, as you probably wont be able to fit the 1270 belt by the roadside! but withthe 1290 you can do it while the charger is on thumbsup

A 1300 is for stage 1 with the bigger pulley. The 1270 is stage 2 with the LSJ OEM standard size pulley.

Not sure it's that simple. Mine is a Courtenay fitted stage 2 with standard pulley and having removed the belt today it's a 1300mm 5pk belt.

Well, that is what they told me as Courtenay had accidentally send me the 1300 belt. Had to return it to exchange for a 1270 stage 2 belt. Maybe different idler pulley layout changes things? I have the (later) one bolted on top of the alternator.

Likwise, they only did the conversion 2 months ago. Very strange.......
