My Krav Maga instructor is emmigrating to Melbourne next month & is leaving the class to be run by people I dont personally rate good enough to teach. Nice guys & 1 of them is very good but not instructor material, what I'm saying is how can you be taught by people you can outsmart,out-think & have bettered them every time you have paired up with them training
? I'm not being big headed but this is true, even though I outdo these people I personally would not be good enough to teach IMHO!So I am sadly quitting.

I'm starting up MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) as seen in the amazing UFC.![]()
I was just wondering if anybody shares the same interest as it's not everybody's cup of tea?

Yeah, did a bit years ago but did Ninjitsu for a while after Karate & then went on to Krav Maga.
MMA is purely brutal!

I'd have to disagree there mate, don't get me wrong I know loads of boxers at pro level & amateur & their fitness levels are out of this world but the MMA guys who fight at the same kind of levels excel their training regime hands down, their stamina is awesome having to do 5 minute rounds instead of 3 etc. I know there are more rounds in Boxing but nearly doubling the amount of minutes in each round & taking blows to the legs, mid section & head takes twice as much out of you.More demanding fitness wise

Seriously, watch MMA Fight Science, I think the episode is on Youtube in 9 or 10 six minute parts, you will see the difference in figures between boxers & MMA fighters.
I love Boxing too but I've taken to UFC more over the last 3 years.

different sports different muscle groups used in different ways!
boxing is more rhythmical pace using less of your body to extremes
mma is all of your body to a high extreme pace and demand!
an mma fighter can box a boxer cant do mma
both very fit but mma comes out on top sorry!

Foook what have I started??

This could go on for ages.
At the end of the day if you put a pro boxer in the ring with a pro MMA fighter & tell them to box....the boxer will win but if you ask them to "fight" the MMA fighter will win.
Each person has their own styles and are far superior to eachother in them.
As JJJ said in MMA there are a lot of lucky punches which is true but I've also seen them occur in boxing too, maybe not as many because pinpointing punches is the whole game.
The reason I started the thread was as I'm giving MMA a go,not as a sport to compete but just as I enjoy it & it all helps in real life situations that occur everyday in this day & age. Boxing is a great art & if somebody attacks you in the street or pub/club & you get a good shot then you knock your opponent out with minimal effort but if a boxer gets taken down to the ground where he has no momentum or range of motion then a MMA fighter will certainly walk away unscathed. I think the statistics were somewhere around 85% of streetfights end up on the ground.
Therefore thats why "I" think MMA is better but thats just my opinion.
At the end of the day if you put a pro boxer in the ring with a pro MMA fighter & tell them to box....the boxer will win but if you ask them to "fight" the MMA fighter will win.
But if you put them both on a treadmill the boxer will win

Sorry that's utter horseshit.
Name one MMA fighter who can box ...? Matt Skelton is the closest possibility, and he came from K1, and can't box for sh1t. You telling me Ken Shamrock could do 12x3's...? It's raising it's game, but MMA is boxings skanky cousin!
Guys Like Urijah Faber are awsome at what they do, but it's generally stalk, a few shots, then grapple, which although extremely physically demanding is not in the same league as the fitness levels of someone in the same weight catagory in boxing, say... Manny Pacquiao who is flat out working for 36 mins, not 25. Like I mentioned, that's almost 50% longer, at a higher workrate. Unless you appreciate the technique on display alot of MMA is boring, as it's two guys hugging on the floor waiting for a mistake from the other. That said, I used to love Genki Sudo!!
I'm really not going down the 'who's hardest' route, as both would prevail in thier own ring, but purely down to physical demand boxing is far tougher!
Boxers work harder for longer, so how can it be less demanding...?
