I'm not sure that anyone here has bothered with the Stage 1 - AFAIK all have gone straight for the Stage 2 whilst the car is in bits. I came from a TMS Stage 2+.

ONLY THINGS IS YOU GET 65 BHP FOR 3200 VAT FREE FOR ME YEA BUT WITH THE CONVERSION IS $5000 AND FOR ANOTHER 1600 POUNDS OR $2700 FOR ME YOU ONLY GET 30 BHP. I WOULD BE HAPPY WITH THE POWER TO PRICE RATIO OF THE STAGE 1. SORRY LEFT CAPS ON

I think Muncher effectively had the Stage1 conversion (although his was the self-fit guinea pig) so might be worth PM'ing him or searching his thread about the subject.

I could be interested in a stage 1 but im still undecided as if i do go down the s/c route i might aswell go for the full whack and have the stage 2 Also are the BHP/torque increase figures on the Courtenay website from a standard N/A?

the problem with the courtenay stg 1 is it still uses the rare as rocking horse sh** and expensive charge cooler manifold, just without the laminova coolers. So if your fitting one of them you may as well fit the laminovas and go for stg 2.

I'm guessing with the $ prices you could be in the US. Why not just go down the Cobalt SS charger route like others have. Much cheaper and gives good results.

I`m the uk but can order from the us without duty or tax or i can buy here in the UK without tax. The cobalt supercharger is hard to find new as its discontinued and I think I read that it dosent fit right bolt pattern alittle off.

for both conversions you really need a full 2.5" exhaust - so same cost  sc conversion will cost approx £3k itb's £1850 + comp stage 2 cams £450 = £2300 you could of course buy Lee's secondhand set of itb's for £1200 and make that figure = £1600

now your not quite being equal there as SC cost is fitted and the ITB's are for parts only and I recon you'd struggle to get 210bhp from ITB's without headwork.

i think if i was going to spend 5k on the car I would go for the Z20LET Turbo Transplant as my engine does have 71k miles and uses a little oil, not enough to cause smoke.

Indeed, it's always better to upgrade to the turbo. :P

remember its an astra/vetra engine! if serviced well then these things last hundreds of thousands of miles! even if they are treated like crap taxi cars the engines still last 150-200k miles!!

sc conversion stage 2 is 250bhp to transplant a standard turbo lump in it is the same price (if you want courtenays to fit it) and that will be 200bhp........ depends how you like your power being delivered!

im still reading into the americans as they have twincharged engines :)
