After a few hours of searching and reading about airbox mods, itg panel filters and failing AMMs I am still non the wiser as to whether my plan, to do the courtenay air box mods (and drilling holes) and sticking the itg panel filter from the Thorney website, is the right one. I have found no definitive answers! So what do you knowledgeable people think? I want to do these mods but I don't want to fork out for a new AMM and have to revert back to a paper filter in the long run!

Do it! I have had a K&N panel filter in for 19k miles and no AMM problems whatsoever CS modded my airbox 10k miles ago, fantastic sound, gained some more torque, and again no problems at all. Its a 'must do' IMO

In the email instructions I recieved from Courtenay they don't mention drilling the 2p sized holes that others do. Should I skip this step or does anyone know of any good guides for doing this correctly (Timbo-style)?

Personally not a fan of drilling airboxes. I have removed the trumpets on mine and have been toying with the idea of a panel filter but, like you haven't had the balls/found the info on here, to actually go through with it. Too afraid of amm issues. It's odd because the first thing (usually) you do when moddifying a car is buy an induction kit of some description. Do all models with the LET have this amm issue?

I'm gathering all the relevant info at the moment but when I do I'll drop you a PM on here and we can see how we fare I'll just add the itg panel at a later date as I'll not be getting it for a month or two!

What colour VXT do you have as I thought I knew all the VX owners from around these here parts but obviously not it isn't a black one by any chance is it as another member stuck up a post in the spotted section about a black VXT thy saw in Newcastle!?

It's silver and I've only had it a few weeks. Bought from a member on here called B.R.I. who I think came to a couple of meets. Am looking forward to getting to know a few local drivers and swapping some ideas Phil

Cheers VXTyrant, it's nice to know that taking a little time to take pics & posting a simple guide has helped fellow VX'ers along their way.
I took my airbox back out last weekend & drilled some holes in it & well pleased with the result.

100% remove trumpets If you want a bit of extra induction noise - drill some holes If you want you can give the box a helping hand by getting some flexi hose and attaching to the airbox and direct it into the top of the pax ear to give a slight ram effect (done this on mine and did not drill the holes (no room left lol) I have always ran std paper filter and had no issues above 300bhp - maybe a k&n / itg / whatever filter would help but I drag quite a bit of crap into the box and not sure just how good a foam filter would cope? I change the paper one every 5k or so as they are so cheap This weekend I am thinking of having a futher play with the box on mine looking at removing that massive buldge into the box (needed on other models to clear chassis leg) maybe smooth the plastic ridges and convert outlet to 80mm (to match 80mm AMM) - currently using a reducer pipe. Going to do some bedtime reading 1st As long as you keep the drilled holes at the bottom of the box you will have no issues driving all conditions - in fact even the ram styleeeee way mine is done has had no water issues last year in all conditions If you are stuck at the weekend just call - not a difficult job just can rag your hands lol DG

Oh yeah,that poxy clip at the back of the airbox on the far right through the wheel arch!!

What diameter is this piping, i've wanted to do this for a while but never got round to it. I also thought this would add to the demise of the amm! Having said that my car hasn't seen a wet road in about 3 years so should be less of a problem!!!

Can't remember size prob about 40mm? Never killed my old oe AMM and 80mm fine also - done about 25k with it on

Thanks. Where did you get your piping from. Not somewhere mainstream that i can just walk into and buy some if i had to guess
