Hi Tim, I'm seriously considering a new 3rd party ECU. Bloody expensive (for me anyway), but everyone I know with proper car experience (and some have driven the car) is telling me to switch away from OEM ECU.

Steves insights look like great progress though, hopefully he will be the new community mapper :)

Are you likely to be moving quickly on it or just enjoying the car for the summer first? You confident in the safety of your current map I suppose is the key question.

Depends if he is going to match Z22SE pricing and charge 875 euros

I have been telling him that since you first mentioned it.

I expect to use the Life (Syvecs) F88 RX or RS on mine.

Bit the bullet and insured the thing today.

Went with Henderon Taylor (underwritten by Aviva), based on a recommendation from Simon (MrSimba) on here. Good service, very mod friendly, no excessive questioning about my dogs name and whether I want life insurance etc etc . Oh and cheapest price too, including track day cover and international driving at no extra cost.

Had a bit of an embarrassing moment today, when I was crawling out of the MOT station in 1st gear a nearby car alarm went off whilst all the mechanics were watching. Then just as I was losing my blush 200 metres further up the road Nipper set another off, pretty damn close to the local police station.

120 miles of running in so far and everything is looking and feeling good, even the brakes feel good once warmed up and stomped on hard after being parked up for virtually all the winter. I managed to blow a boost pipe off last night as I took it to 5000 RPM and close to full boost - easily remedied.

What is the main issue you have, I know you had a local guy get some data logs on yours.

To progress the .org remap project, it would help to gather as many examples of what people have and their feedback of improvements. The main areas I can help are to get your custom MAF , plus you can put back in your bigger injectors and run the fuel rail at a more normal 3 bar, and have a very fine adjustment in the map.

Main thing in order of importance:

1: Overfueling in places (so my bores don't get washed and oil doesn't contaminate).

2: Underfueling in places.

3: MAF calibration is poor, suspect it may be causing the poor idle, in combination with simply being too big to get a low reading.

4: Improve smoothness of delivery during spool up.

5: Want to reduce power by about 50 BHP (ie reduce boost demand).

6. Check that max boost is set to 1.4 Bar (as it was told it was), as it has shown spikes to 2.0 bar on the dyno. Then lower it to something like 1.2 Bar.

Other things which are not possible on OEM management that would be nice:

1. Traction control.

2. Eliminate MAF.

3. Multiple maps.

4. Switch to run the wastegate at base spring pressure (8 PSI in my case). Ie Switch off EBC and run the wastegate directly from inlet manifold pressure.

Blew a boost pipe off yesterday for a second time when I semi-wellied it to 5000 RPM, so I've tried another way of clamping the hose down over the mouth of the non standard throttle body. Tricky to do and I might need to get a bespoke sleeve machined up to mate to the TB mouth properly instead of my current bodge. Anyway I did a pressure test of the entire boost system with my air compressor to 1.7 Bar and found quite a large leak from a poorly seated clip and have fixed that now.

Went for a quick drive before the rush hour this afternoon after work and in the few gaps between cars gave it some squirts, god it's fast without the boost leak, I still wonder how I ever drove it at full revs. Am waiting for the traffic to dissipate and try again later to get some more running in miles on the engine.

Just been out for an early morning country lane bash. 58 glorious miles with the sun shining, minimal traffic, lush green trees, wind in my hair, ears bleeding from the noise. Looooverly. rallly

Have done 200 miles now, so the engine is more or less run in I think. Took it up to 6000 revs before I chickened out and the boost pipe stayed on :)
