Below shows my old key (top) and a new spare from VXL. Note the red square on the new one, which is the transponder. The old key has the transponder housed inside. Apologies for the poor photo quality, Santa didn't bring me a new camera or phone.

Hey, just called evans halshaw (wolverhampton vx dealer) and they've said its going to cost £88 for a new fob plus £47 (minimum) to have it recoded. just wondered if anyone knows of anything on the net that does it cheaper. (2nd hand will do) just need it as a spare. only came with one fob.

cheers ppl.

Evans Halshaw in Hemel quoted me £25 for a new fob and another £25 to reprogramme about a year ago. Inflation?

I had a new key supplied and coded by a locksmith, and it works fine. As long as they have the tech 2 they can do it. But he could not copy me a spare alarm fob without the code, so as said earlier I will have to get a new alarm from abacus with 2 fobs. Will wait a while for that though. :rolleyes:

OK, for a spare set of keys and a fob I've found you need to do this...

Key;
Can only be bought from VXL for £27 (and only if you have the Security Card which in itself is £20). Once purchased, they can programme it to your car for another £30ish or you can DIY with a OP-COM reader connected to your laptop.

Fob;
If you have acquired a spare fob, you can only reprogramme it to your car via VXL and only if you have the Red Code card. If you have not got this card, like me, you need to buy a new alarm which subsequently comes with two new fobs. The alarms are available from Abacus.

apologies for my lack of knowledge but if colgy says there was no transponder chip in it (empty), then unless its his spare key...how how they be able to start it up?

He may be mistaken. The key must have a chip somewhere in it (some aren't always visible) somewhere, or else the car would not start.

Yeah there must be something in it, I'll need to dig out small screwdrivers and check......

Yes there is definately a transponder chip inside the key housing (i missed it at first) but if you look closer holding the keyblade pointing in front of you its on the top left about 4mm long by 2mm wide by 3mm deep..turn the key upside down and give it a little tap and it pops out.

My key snaped couple of weeks back in the snow and need a replacement..I think if a locksmith can copy the blade and somehow house the chip in the new key everything should be ok..Hopefully should be getting mine done tommorow so il let you guys know if it all goes well.
