I know exactly how you feel and happened to me very close to there just off the motorway at Bretton. I do blame my driving though, had the car six years driven daily in all weather and one day I put my foot down on a muddy roundabout at about 15 mph, 5mph impact on sill £3500 claim.

Took mine to Grange moor coachworks, done many Elises and was a good job and got some extras thrown in.

But surely is that not what GAP insurance is for so you dont loose out and can buy an exact replacement?

Oh and the guy who thinks 1/2 of them are write offs, yourej ust taking the p*ss right, or am I missing something?

Ive had some work done at Grange Moor coachworks before, they were very good. I just went along with who Adrian Flux use......

That is what GAP insurance is there for BUT, there doesnt appear to be much around at the moment for that figure. I paid £11150 for it

Im more confident in the vx in bad conditions that most cars. You obviously have so much more feedback Just drive sensibly. I need to use it all year round and got too and from work in thick snow last year! This isnt to say accidents cant happen. We all lose concentration and just get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. leaving the vx at home just because its a bit miserable outside seems hard for me to understand. Hope the car gets fixed. There is nearly always a way to keep it and by the sound of yours you have a v good chance. i just got whacked by a van = front clam, 1 light, rad box, screen surround and 2 door repairs. Thankfully being fixed.

There you go not too bad New head lamp repaired clam off you go . What is the damage to your clam like ? Could you repair that ? You don't have to make a claim ! whats your xs? If you have a garage and don't drive it every day sort it out yourself . It's not mechanical it can't blow up you just need to get it off cut out the nasty bit rebuild with more fibre glass sand to get the profile correct and give to a paint shop pick it up take it home and re attach to car with new head lamp. I've looked on the web about fibre glass repairs etc there is lots of info or you could ask some to give you a price to repair it insurance will always replace parts not repair. You might find it's not a 4k repair

Sorry to hear about this. I know it's tempting to make plans now but you can't do anything until someone has had a look at it properly - no point in second guessing the outcome til that happens. Can't remember the last time i did 30mph on a motorway slip road mind you.

I really hope they do repair it!!! Im guessing they wont allow me to put some money towards the repair???

The front clam will almost definitely need fully replacing

I was coming down the slip road and had just literally pulled out of the petrol station forecourt, the maximum I was doing was 30mph I would guess probably around 25mph

Walshy day, left hand bend, seen quite a few 'good' drivers go round and spin, strangely from where i was standing not one of them remotely came close to rescueing it. And that was when they were expecting it!

Given what YoB posted above about 'let go of steering wheel/stamp on brakes/clutch and hope' im not surprised. That's not dissing walshy as he is head and shoulders above my driving level (obviously) BUT imo that's track focused, and will invariably see you in the hedge/opposite side of the road when on the road.

I've not done a Walshy day (imo you don't need to if you drive on the roads not track) anybody feeling the need for some (non track) education would do better doing skid pan days where they teach you how to control a car which is getting out of shape and how to keep in control under specific and intended icy/greasy conditions.

Each to their own I guess, I'm sure carlimits is a great learner...but I can't help thinking that driving on a sheet of oil would help most on here better though

Really sorry to hear about your accident, glad you are ok. Sleep on it and remember it is only a car. I agree with a few sentiments already expressed, if you use it as a daily drive then you learn to respect the car and take it very steady in any conditions not described as dry and grippy. I hope these words never come back to bite me though... I hope you geta good settlement, be it a payout or a good price to buy it back to repair if it is a write off. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Here is a slightly larger version of Tom's pic that he text me.

Posted Image

I have dumped it in my Photobucket album, I know I am no VX220 specialist, but to me I don't think that looks too bad does it?

The Clam may be cracked, but compared to the deformation I expected to see then it really isn't that bad at all. Seen nudged clams in worse condition. If the crash structure is where I think it is (having spent most of tonight under the front end of my car, then with the negligable damage to the lower half of the clam then it might not be all bad news.

EDIT: CLICK ON THE PIC FOR A LARGER VERSION.

Well, if you started this thread with that pic I would have advised you not to bother with insurance.

True, but when in the middle of it, it is difficult to really make sense of what is going on. I know when I got caught up in a pile in the outside lane of the A1 that I just fell to bits. When I got out of my car and looked at it I just assumed the worst... It is difficult not to.

Are we heading towards a slightly different consensus guys?

In the recent rainy conditions I've barely gone above 2,000rpm (I'd prefer to hold up all the traffic than loose traction)

That's not half as bad as I was expecting either - unless it's trashed on the driver's side too. I thought the whole front end was going to be trashed

:yeahthat: that look like a good fiber glass repair and a spray can be done if there are no damage on the wheels
if your bonus isn't protected better source the light from eBay or me when i get some will be cheaper in a long run
don't forget when you claim your premium will go up

There is no damage to the sides of the car if thats what you mean? It was just a front on impact and not a very hard one, as said before, the airbag didnt deploy. The radiator looks to be ok and wasnt leaking, even the tow eye looked ok. But still, im guessing it will require a new front clam will it?
