How can I tell which alternator I've got on my 03 na? Looking at a 2.4 inlet manifold and I'm told it matters. Thanks.

unfortunately yo cant tell until the inlet manifold is off and you take the black surround off the laternator and see whether it says 120 or 100. or you could take the alternator off and have a look no quick solution though :(

A quick question in here, which one is it you need for the supercharger? I heard one won't fit? And is taking it all apart the only way I can tell?

120amp does fit with th 2.4 inlet. Just take a little bit of modification on the alternator.

I had the 120amp on my first NA - I just dremmelled off a section from the Alt - less hassle than changing it out and less expense (and a few people who chopped bits off the mani had trouble with it sealing/leaking due to inadequate seal after time). Less mid range pull but seemed to go really well at top end of rev range. Didnt bother with a 2.4 mani on my current NA. Think you have to do quite a few other mods to really feel the benefit (and recover the mid range loss).

Is there a way of measuring the resistance across the terminals to find out the rating?

Thanks, made an offer but postage is quite expensive as I guess it's so heavy! I'm only a student so forget my stingyness.

Can someone please answer this question. If you can only tell what alternator you have by taking off a plastic cover what else is physically different between the 100A and the 120A which stops the 120A version working with the S/C conversion? I presently have all the parts for my SC conversion and plan to fit over a long w/e. If I find that I have the wrong alternator then it could hold the build up and may have knock on issues with the appointment with CMS. I have been talking to a guy who can supply me a 100A alternator but he says the part ref for the 100A cross references to the 120A. Basically he says he cannot see a physical difference between the 2. He also says that he can get an after market alternator with the correct current output, fixing lug locations and pulley setup as the original for considerably less dosh than the oem one. Build starts beginning of March and so I'd like to be a lot clearer on this by then. cheers for any help Guys thumbsup

there is a slight difference between the 100 and 120 amp alternators, but you still need to remove the inlet manifold to see them. on the black plastic trim it will say either 100amp or 120 amp, so thats the quickest way to tell. ps: fitting a sc conversion over a long weekend is a bit optimistic for a first sc install
