ps: fitting a sc conversion over a long weekend is a bit optimistic for a first sc install

This is where i come into it

you must be as stupid as me then

my advice would be,
weekend one - move ecu + install chargecooler
weekend two - install sc stuff

As the VX220 doesnt consume much would it be possible to source a physically smaller alternator with perhaps 60-80 amp. Saving some weight and space? Or is alternators closely connected to the rest of the cars electronical systems, making a swap difficult? Do anyone know if 100 and 120 amp alterantors was radomly supplied or has the alternator changed at som specific time during production? Do early cars have 100 or 120 amp? Do anyone know of a lightweight alternator?

I will be fitting a denso alternator at some point this year, the 100 amp alternator is a bit of an overkill on a vx220

How many amps do you think is needed? Have you perhaps already found any specific model? Denso seems to have many alternators...

FYI the ECU is coming out the week before to go to CMS. JS said he would get it flashed and sent back by return. Jameshs is going to be doing the conversion with me making tea and coffee on request. James I'll try and do some little VX/SC related jobs too thumbsup As said all I'm trying to do is avoid any hiccups when the build is taking place. If it means having a 100A alternator on standby then so be it. If there is a lighter/better/cheaper alternative to the 100A then I'll get one of those. When 2 suppliers keep telling me that from the info they've got the 100A and the 120A are identical apart from the outputs, I'm a bit confused as to why the 100A works and the 120A doesn't. This of course maybe a waste of time as JS at CMS told me that the early cars were generally fitted with the 100A; my car is a 2001.
