get rid of rear view mirror, you don't need them for MOT if you have two mirrors. plus , no more annoying HGV / 4x4 headlights blinding you amazing clear windscreen panaramic view of the road

Yeah, I took my old one off to fit the Daewo one I got off LazyDonkey. Cheers fella! I havent yet got round to fitting the other one as I really like having a completely clear screen!! Might not get round to putting it on after I get a new windscreen cos I cracked it taking the old mirror off :P

I went to the local scrapyard & took the mirror from a Nissan Micra. At the same time I got one from a Vectra which has the same mounting as the VXT. Cut the stem from the Vectra mirror just below the ball. Keep the windscreen mounting/stem and throw away the mirror c/w ball joint. Cut the stem of the Micra mirror just below the slide-fixing & throw away the sliding part. Drill the Micra stem to accept the stub from the Vectra and screw/glue the two together. The stems are solid plastic and can take a self tapper but you'll need to temporarily remove the spring clip from the Vectra mount to insert a screw. I did but I think Araldite on its own would be enough to hold the two together. File/cut away excess plastic to suit your personal aesthetics  The Micra's was the smallest mirror I could find on the day. I think a Fiat Cinquecento might be smaller but the only one there was broken.

They're not very good - but! This is the VX (Vectra) mirror. You can just see the round stub coming out of the windscreen mount and into the mirror. The easiest way to cut it is to pull the ball out of the mirror socket and then cut off the ball.

I didn't take any photos of the Micra mirror before surgery but this is the finished article. You just need to make sure there's enough free space between the two to let the mounting shroud drop enough to slide the mount back onto the windscreen. I didn't cut back or shape the plastic very much because its well hidden behind the mirror (& I'm too lazy!)

I might repeat the exercise if I find a smaller mirror (Cinquecento) and will take more photos next time. At the moment the difference with this one is really good. Remember to wear a jacket with big pockets next time you're in the scrapyard ;)
