sizeten are you saying you are running without one then?


to eliminate the sensor and wiring loom it was one of the things we tried for extended mileage, I could not get it to raise a MIL code, it probably just substitutes a default value.

pretty sure it is 100% crankshaft timed and fuelled.


i agree, i also think its crankshaft timed, but i've gone through 2 camshaft sensors now (one was fooked & one was a cheapo nasty thing that also went bang) both times it spluttered a bit, ran perfectly, but tripped the safe mode & EML.

it could of course be that it will run fine without one installed at all, but getting the wrong signal trips the fault? i would be surprised if this were the case though as IIRC the cam sensor has 3 wires, an earth, a sensor live & the trigger wire which would leave you to believe that if the sensor went bang it would simply not give the trigger signal, as if there was no sensor there!?

My ones - which I think are standard GM - are basically a transistor. You give them power, but the ECU pulls the signal wire to 5v with a ~10k resistor and the sensor pulls it down to 0v when there's a tooth. I guess depending in how your sensor broke, it could have pulled the wire down all the time, and that could have confused it - but it seems a bit far-fetched.

without the camshaft sensor the engine will still run, just sequential fuelling gets turned off and you goto batch firing (paired or all 4) mostly you wont notice though lol

wonder if this could be an option with the z20let ecu on the ss2e engine then, Stephan might have some ideas
