I doubt they would be strong enough to prevent the engine hitting you on the head.
Would be more worried about the engine having to go through the fuel tank first

My harness bar offers me far more protection than anything getting through the bulkhead than the flimsy little plates that I cut out.
I was sitting in the VX in traffic this morning looking at these head rest thingies and the harness bar and I thought exactly that, in fact it seems to be in a better position to do this than what is provided as standard. Now wheres my angle grinder.

I've just gone out and removed these, I've never looked at how they were fixed before, and I cant believe that they have anything to do with strength or protection when they have cut away half of the profile of the roll bar to weld in the plates. The plates themselves are of such a thickness that I cant see them stopping an alternator approaching you at speed let alone an engine.

Exactly!! When people actually get in and have a look at the flimsy metal the whole 'engine stopper' theory is laughable!!
What you think of the rear visibility now...?

So. They were put there why? There has to be reason. There is nothing in the VX that isn't there for a reason. Suggestions?
Aesthetics.

Cut into the roll-bar for aesthetics
Cut into a structure to add something 'structurally integral'..?

I can use it perfectly well, and whilst driving - and without taking my eyes off the road. However, since the driver should not be indulging in such activities - it can be used perfectly well by the passengerThe unusable cup holder???

Vx have already done the main harm by making the roll bar less strong

I have removed mine too. I think my monocoque (spelling??) seats, harness bar and 4 point harness will offer much better protection IMO
Still undecided on whether to get a muncher roll bar cover though....
