I'm going to order some Gaz Coilovers, where's the best (and cheapest) place to go? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks Rcv, looked on eBay but cheapest on there is £472. I'm sure I've seen thread where someone bought for £400.

I bought them for £425, but that was because they put the price up wrong and it was meant to be £525. :)

That was lucky. What do you think to them? How do they compare to the standard set up?

I've had GAZ nickles for 2and a bit years now, love them but after the lovely roads screwed something up I've had std stuff back on.... have to say for road use I rather like the std stuff  So will get GAZ to revalve the nickles and get some different springs to get a simlar behaviour :) thats NOT saying the GAZ as they are are poo, they are great, but as ever I cant stop fiddling

From what I understand the only difference between GAZ and GAZ golds are the material the damper is made from, Galvanised steel as opposed to anodised Aluminium.

I rather like the std stuff

Both Gaz units are twin tube unlike the superior monotube in the std Billies

What spring rates will you go for to get similar to standard?

Personally, I wish i'd never got near to buying anything from GAZ

So where are we now?

Inappropriate spring rates? no bump stops? a never ending queue of people needing replacement units due to the GAZ shocks knocking your teeth out at 5mph on a perfectly level surface?

Utter shite IMO.

Lets not forget that the zomg hamazing nitronz AND std billies have caused wishbone denting too. There has always been bumpstops in the GAZ's, so its a lot unfair to try and bad mouth a product with a lie ;) Also lets not forget that with ALL aftermarket suspension the springs are usually wrong/whatever whoever tested them with liked meaning others wont like them/want their own rates etc (I mean someone had to modify the zomg nitronz with stiffer springs and new valving to be happy ;) ) I've not experienced bad ride from my GAZ's in the 2 and a bit years of running them. They have done the job perfectly well, and stopped a HUGE quantity of body roll (feels like the sills are gonna hit the floor with the std stuff on atm ) Atleast the spring paltforms dont turn to dust like the super spiffy spunk in your coffee billies Even though mine arent tip top (I am blaming that on the shagged roads as they were 100% fine before the snow/pothole explosion), the customer service is second to none and I'd rather have to deal with them a few times than have a complete and utter headache/be ignored by other suppliers when soemthing goes awry (eg one company rpetending that they have never had a complaint about wishbone dinking, despite a few folks providng eail trails that they had etc)

Gaz on mine rode beautifully at 400/550 (as good as standard Billies, better on bumps) and never bent any wishbones or whatever even at low ride heights. They are not Nitrons but perfectly good - not shite as said above.

If I remember rightly, Nitron had the same bump stop issues and we saw bent arms on their shod cars as well. Both Gaz and Nirtron changed their bump stops when this issue came to light. This as I remember was more of an issue on savagely lowered cars.

As far as spring rates are concerned, as far as I know Gaz have supplied spring rates as directed by the purchaser unless no rates were specced or the purchaser had no idea and then there are default rates that are supplied.

I have used Gaz kit for many years and have never had to send a unit back, maybe I am lucky but I am sure from what I have heard there would not be an issue if I did ever return a unit. I have not read any bad stories about Gaz not honouring a warrantee any of their products.

If last weekends race results are anything to go by at the round of the Elise's at Brands, didn't they get podiums in both races including two firsts?

Each to their own. I am very happy with my twin tube Gaz Golds, drive 500 miles a week and very rarely get passed on track days.

I maybe wrong but I didn't think the bent wishbones were anything to do with spring rates just bump stops and have we not seen standard cars on standard shocks suffer from the same problem?
