My sticky/split boot thing held together for a year until the CV joint died entirely.

I tried one of those stretchy ones from ebay, only lasted a week. The problem as far as I can tell is the shite retaining straps they supply. The boot itself was largely intact, but there was no sign of the strap any where. In the end I took the drive shaft off (complete with seized on upright) to a friendly mechanic and he put on the OEM Vauxhall one I got with a much better clip that needed a special tool to crimp up. He took one look at the strap Vauxhall supplied and put it in the bin without saying a word! Total cost £3. Re: Kia. There's only about a tenner difference, so I went with Vauxhall to be 100% sure it would have the correct circlips etc.

Mine were aftermarket ones. I only supplied one and it failed so was not prepared to supply them anymore. I use originals but can't get them any cheaper than you guys can from Vauxhall.

Who's to say it will go again after 1 month?

I've used (again, whilst not on the vx), cheaper aftermarket cv boots and not had an issue with them.

For whatever reason, the VX is hard on its CV boots.

I blame heat and lack of use, plus a sh*t alignment of the gearbox to the wheels.

And yes the GM prices are mental, but they were the clowns who specified them like that and the cheap ones seem to be sh*t. Where a cheap one on anyother vehicle would be fine as it wouldnt be as misused.

Plus they are now end of life - Autovaux can't get them, neither can Vauxhall direct. I just managed to get one from Vauxhall via Opel - 10 days delivery 70 odd quid. I have no choice.

Stretch boots need a cable tie round the middle or they expand and foul the gearbox. Do that and they will last years not weeks.

Had 3 VX's in 10 year. Lots of trackdays on all of them. Present one is near 60,000 miles. Never had a CV boot go...ever.

Lack of use ;) take note :P It seems the cars used less but harder tend to eat them. Dry old inflexible boots

Need something too. Quote from Opel dealer; €95 ex vat, but there were already 8 people on the backorder waitinglist...

What's the 2nd best option? VW type or universal (stretch?) with some extra ty-wraps around?
