Hi all - Just come back from a driving tour in Europe - and both mine and my mate's VX suffered exactly the same problem at the same time on a Swiss mountain pass. The expansion tanks have cracked around where the pipe joins it, and it's gradually getting worse (fortunately both held out for the remainder of the holiday). I have a track day in August, so want to replace it before then, so was wondering if anybody knew the cost of them? If anybody also knows a good VX specialist in the Bristol area who can fit it, then I would be glad to give them my business as I'm a technical numpty cheers Andy

tank should be less than that :P anyway how to. Get tank for the 2.2 its the same tank as on the 1.6 8v MK4 astra if the dealer is being a tool. (cap is optional) buy LARGE drink from maccy D's Drink conents of cup, throw lid and straw away. Get a pair of pliers out and pop the silver clip off the header tank to bracket. wiggle it off the bracket and angle it enough to take the lid off and pout the contents into the cup. take the hoses off with the pliers, catch anymore drips/sploshes in cup. whip out the level sensor new tank, fit level sensor and hoses put back on the bracket with clip. Pour caught fluid into header tank and replace cap. Done 10mins inc drinking time.

:yeahthat:

Seriously, it's one of the easiest jobs there is to do on a VX.

But, if you really can't face it, try Neil Garner who know their way around a VX.

i had a look at a mk4 astra at a scrapy and the coolant tank was the same but didnt have the level sensor in the bottom, nor did it have the hole for it!

unless they stopped making that model and just fitted a vx one to them if it needed changing

Was it a 1.6 8v?
my 1.8 16v has a simlarish tank with the level hole.
AV said the Vx part number matched the astra one. Its entirely possible the non level sensor part got superceeeeeeded

Dead cheap from Autovaux. If you can put fuel in the car, you can change this item.

anyway

whip out the level sensor
new tank, fit level sensor and hoses
put back on the bracket with clip.
Pour caught fluid into header tank and replace cap. Done

10mins inc drinking time.

on the 2.2 you can fit a new one without emptying the contents form the old one if you keep the lid on and angle it right as you take it off.
