Pull the red locking section out - comes out at 90 degrees to the main body of the plug - and then pull the rest of the plug straight out.

Cheers Matt, I gave up in the end as a bad job with the throttle pedal. However I managed to have a good go at the one behind the coolant tank and the one on the throttle body.

Fingers crossed that has done it. Took it out for a quick spin and non of the dodgy surfaces I went over didn't seem to upset the car, but I know my car (the perfect live-hate relationship).

I'll stick some pics of that bastard pedal when I get chance.

Thought I would add to this rather then starting a new thread, I was going to clean them all out at the weekend after speaking to mangham54 on the phone as it cane back today leaving me limping home!! I think I stupidly cleaned out the wrong cable after reading this. Is it the small 2 pinned cable at the back right of the engine bay that needs to be cleaned out? And the two under the passenger wheel arch ( which I still haven't got round too)? Thanks J

The one on the throttle body I seem to remember has about 8 wires running into it... Sorry if that may not have come across on the phone on Saturday. Basically, where the inlet manifold is goes onto the top of the engine, there is the throttle body and there should be a relatively chunky plug that plugs into the side of it. That is the first one to do, but the two, as we discussed on the phone, that are behind the coolant tank (or in front of it when looking through the wheel arch) are supposed to be the worst - and were the trouble causers on mine. Cleaning them with WD40 seemed to do the trick for me.

Hope that may clear any confusion. If not, you got my number, give me a call tomorrow lunchtime. thumbsup

EDIT: not WD40, but actually electrical contact cleaner
, Doh!

I cleaned out the one that sits above the engine block, it's a grey male/female connector so it must have been the wrong one. If it's dry tomorrow I'll attempt the one in the engine bay at work.. If not i will wait till I get into the garage. Thanks again mate

Does anyone know where and if I can buy a new throttle sensor on its own. Mine needs replacing and Vauxhall are quoting for the whole body (£150). Cheers

When I had this problem, the Lotus garage said that they had put in a 'spare' to test, then cleaned up my original & put back in, might be worth trying a Lotus dealer and asking if the Elise S2 box would fit? Just a thought, other than that, Vauxhall or AutoVaux maybe. Good luck with it. Let us know the outcome.
