I have tried searching but had no luck as i am on my phone. Was wondering if anyone knows the price and also whether it would be worth it with the.winter months upon us. I don't mind the cold just wish my windscreen would clear faster than it does. Cheers

Does sir think he's special. Better than everyone else. We all have to suffer with misted screens and ice on the inside so why shouldn't you :P However, if I needed to get a new screen, then yes, without doubt, yes. No second thoughts, yes. You'll be best getting it done at Sinclaire's through insurance. It will cost your windscreen excess as normal but there will be an additional cost on top. Can't remember how much but £150 rings a bell.

Well i have got a small chip in mine and if possible get it changed while also getting a black window surround. I think some other guy on here has got one. His sig/avatar pic is a red n/a 1st lap behind a fezza 360 3rd lap or something infront of it. I would PM him but can't remember his name

Sinclaires quoted me something like £550 for the heated screen with fitting. Some of that would have hopefully been picked up by the insurance company but gave up waiting for them to get authorisation from Heritage and had a regular screen fitted instead.

£150 for wiring up a fcuking switch and relay...... robbing fuckers! If you are insured with Admiral, good luck with getting a heated screen  They send you to autoglass who charge admiral £200 for a screen, but to you without insurance they would charge £1K. Meaning you have to pay atleast £150 ontop of your excess without even getting it wired up. CUTNS! Junks on here and Seloc sells the screens

Surely changing the air pipe thing and making sure you have decent air flow coming through the vents is the first thing to try. Mine hasn't steamed up bad yet, but when it does it clears fairly sharpish with the blowers.

Yep, around 150 extra but thats due to the extra cost of the screen, labour and wiring. The windscreen insurance has a maximum level and surprise surprise, it won't cover the complete cost. But probably covers the cost of a normal screen with barely a penny to spare

I needed a new windscreen and wanted one, but in the end dealing with the surround was too much of a kerfuffle and I gave up.

It just takes a few minutes for it to warm up, from cold.

Spot the owner with a working heater. :P

I think yours is probably the exception rather than the rule. My heater is garbage and the knob that changes the intensity of the air being blown is nothing more than a volume control.

I have driven my VX in snow, with outside temperature as low as -5 C degrees, and the heater was fine.

By the end of my journey (about 30 to 40 mins) it was too warm inside to have a coat on.

Yes I have a heated screen and its a long story.

Aviva let me do it through Sinclaires (now essex autosport) and it cost an extra £150. They need the car for a couple of days.

They buy the heated screens and mould their own surround and bond on. This is fine but mine was fitted too high as my soft top was fitted. When i tried to fit my hardtop - no good. New surround needed which sincs provided but got broken in the post. Original surround refitted correctly but slightly damaged and not the best (i didnt want the 3hrs journey back to sincs) They are on top of this problem now - basically they fit with the hardtop in place.

i think the £150 fitting is fair as its a full dash off job and wires going down both sides of the car. At least a couple of hours work.

When working the screen is awesome. Mine always had a 1" bar down the centre which didnt demist. I never thought much of it until the whole centre 3rd failed. The wire (buzz bar) below the screen has melted.

I contacted the screen manufacturers and they blamed fitment but offered a cost price screen at £150 as a mark of goodwill. They had never seen such a failure. Sinclaires/essex autosport are avoiding my calls and emails. They have been fwd the offer of the cheap replacement screen but no reply. i cant win as even if they agree to fix i have a massive journey, prob £80 in travel fairs and need to take days off work.

I think I was unlucky. I still demist the 2 outer thirds every morning and drive with my head against the window :ninja:

DIY - Screens are £250 to 275. Essex surrounds cost them £90 so not sure what they will charge. deffo cant source from vaux. Muncher fitted his own. The wiring looks tricky. mess it up and you get my problem.

I must admit my heater seems decent, to the point it was turned off this morning, but, it's still not that cold IMO.

Since taking the control cable thing off and yarking the lever as far across as possible it's as hot as feck, even when off warm air is blown through. Also, I replaced the tin pipe thing with a length of extractor pipe.
On each end I used drain pipe connectors wrapped in stick neoprene for a decent fit. Seems to work a treat. As far as I’m aware the heater box has never been out but looks in decent condition.

I know I’ve jinxed myself now.

Just be careful not to boast too much... as Vocky will pay you a visit to stick in his VX220 heritage centre he sounds like he is building!

Yes it definitely is worth it IMO as it is just convenient. I never really use the heater/fan anyway as i am always warm myself so no need. Just if i put it on to clear the window it takes forever. I could try and dig my heater box out i suppose as i'm guessing the mod has never been done on mine
