Heated windscreens are a godsend IMO. Mine (in a Sierra Sapphire :tt:, not the VX) made such a difference on frosty mornings. It demisted and defrosted in no time. No more peering through a slowly rising clear patch for the fist half mile of your journey..... :P

First car I ever had one in was my old Sapphire Cosworth and I loved it (and the car). Mine doesn't suffer from frosty screen syndrome as it's kept in the garage but I suffer chronic fogging up when it's heavily raining. So much so, I had to abandon a track day once and also sit in a service station for 90 minutes on the way back from Le Mans last year. The heater and fan work really well in my car, so I'd love a heated screen just to help with that.

That and the 2 cases of Jagermeister we had at Le Mans were probably partially the reason behind it. That's the problem though, plenty warm in the car with cold rain on the windscreen = no fecking visibility at all.

In addition to the heater mod (which was a massive difference) I also replaced the "tights mod" on the bulkhead end of the aluminium heater hose with a wire sieve from Asda, which also improved the air flow...lets thru a bit more fine grit but not really much more than previously. I tell ya it's truly joyful to have a warm car - I've even bought an in-car thermometer so I can see how hot it gets now - this morning I got in my car and it was 4 degrees...2 miles later it was 14..after 20 mins (arrving at work) it was 22 - lovely!

Well I was trying not to use the insurance as I have not long bought it as a bit of a winter project but seem to be unable to get a good price to replace the screen

Just found this thread :) I fitted my own, sourced via Junks, fitted by Autoglass as an insurance job. I however had to fit all the wiring, switch and relay and also chop off a screen surround from a crashed S2 Elise as the screens don't come with one. It's a fair bit of work to fit but it works very well. Funnily I don't leave the VX outside much or use it in the winter so it's rarely used in anger, but it does completely clear the screen within a minute or so and prevent any misting.

I have tried searching but had no luck as i am on my phone. Was wondering if anyone knows the price and also whether it would be worth it with the.winter months upon us. I don't mind the cold just wish my windscreen would clear faster than it does.

Cheers

Get it replaced on the insurance with autoglass, when they ask you say its a heated one you had fitted, pay the extra money £150? ish, then just wire it up your self once they have fitted it???

This was my plan :) Is it flawed?

Just to follow up, that company above is Ricky Evans Motorsport:

www.heatedwindscreen.com/acatalog/lotus-heated-windscreens.html

Go through autoglass and they claim from your insurance.

AutoGlass have an account with them, but you have to tell autoglass that they have an account with Ricky Evans Motorsport and it is a heated screen for an elise mk 2.

Mines on its way! thumbsup
