I shall be bringing a headlight assembly to a company we supply tomorrow.... Should see what they say at the very least.

Nice. Ask if they can improve quality too as the OE one isn't best!

Dont worry, the discussion thus far was "it needs to fit the hole, but work properly"
If its anything like the units they have made for a car they have made, they will be funking ace :) Was almost too scared to ask for a price though

My boss once interviewed someone for the role of a Mechanical Designer - in the interview he asked 'what is the worst thing you've designed?' The response was 'the headlights for the VX220'. The guy didn't get the job, but it would have been interesting to see what else I could have learnt had he got it! Small world. When I turned up in the VX my boss told me I'd have light problems - I thought how does he know that?!

he might have been a great engineer but given a budget of £1.27 to sort the lights

I would have headed straight through to the personnel department and asked them for his contact details (on the quiet I might add- as it is a breach of the DPA) and then rung him, saying that you had found his contact details from a spurious internet website and probed him for info.

:poke: You know it makes sense.

At the rate that they change hands on fleabay the base Market would be 20-30 units per annum. However the option for a replacement part for me (especially at a reasonable price) would interest me... Especially if the lights were easier to adjust and keep better sealed.

It's certainly worth asking those manufacturers.

That is because only 20 or 30 units come up for sale on eBay.

I would replace both mine for a £2-300 replacement option as mine are tired and a bit leaky.

I spoke to a friend a while back (who owns a plastics moulding company)and he said the production of a mold alone would be way in excess of what would ever be made back on the sale of any headlights produced from it. In short....Not worth doing
