In all seriousness, £6.5k will get you an absolute shed. Either something that has been accident repaired (and not well) or in poor mechanical condition. Will end up costing you a lot more in long run than buying a decent car.

Not strictly true. I've seen some half-decent ones go recently for around that, but it's all a matter of waiting. You'd be very lucky if one comes up in the summer for that amount.

Far too cheap. We are our own worst enemies selling our cars at these prices. :0(

Thats market forces for you.
I sold my Audi S2 for a third of whatr I spent on it and there's only 300 avants left in the UK.
Its a shame (as a seller!) but the UK has rubbish 2nd hand car values.
You lose when you sell - you win when you buy - simples!

I agree with the above.. You would be better of saving up a bit more cash. If you got something for that money you would only have to spend more money on it.
Throwing good money after bad.
I sold my N/A last year to get my tubby and I got 8.5k as she was standard on 2001 plate.

The used car Market is all over the place at the moment, with some cheap cars overly holding the values, whilst others like the VX with higher fuel consumptions collapsing. If the VX's fuel economies were more comparable to that of the S1 Elise and were in a similar tax band to the S1 I bet you would find the second hand residuals would be more closely matched. As can be seen in the Cars For Sale section I nearly chopped in my MG for a more fuel efficient hatchback, but after a change of heart am planning on keeping it for the moment.

The vx is fuel efficient? 35mpg and potential 40mpg. very fuel effiecent for the performance. petrol prices might make vx's value go up. evo's scoobys puntos vxr8s other fast cars etc 15-20mpg- people selling up but still want the power could potentially be buying vxturbos. i almost bought a vxr8 glad i didnt now! got my 220 instead ;) best thing ive ever bought

In the real world the VX is remarkably efficient for it's type and performance, but if you look at the forecasts made in broad brush buyers guides the quoted figure is 33mpg which when you apply normal quoted to real world efficiencies would make you expect sub-30mpg. I have never known a car better the quoted figures, but the VX does without even trying.

coming from newcastle im not surprised  ill translate. loadsa companys say you get 80mpg or watever in their cars but you never do (possible to get 80mpg driving like a granny). so if they say 80mpg expect 60mpg and so on. but vaux say you get 33mpg in the vx. and it easily gets that and more.
