Fitting the smaller pulley instantly gave me 20bhp+ more than the standard sized pulley. If you're already getting circa 260bhp out of the standard Stage 2, it'll put you right in the danger zone.

Smaller means a 3.1" pulley? A 2.9"? Size matters here...

I think whilst the engine is in bits you might as well get some new pistons in there too. I was going to go with rods only but as my engines approaching 100k now a rebore and some wisecos seems a better bet. I don't really want to pull the thing apart again, especially if its to fish broken bits of aluminum out of the sump ;)

Came to same conclusion, after fair bit of thought and research on here, on Cobalt/Ion sites and discussions with Jon.

So my 250bhp SC which has been great fun for last year is at CMS now with it's engine out.

I'll go whole hog with Harrop once there are a few high-output ones out there, but meanwhile settled on good engine build basis that will be ok for M62 too with SC cams, 8.9:1 forged pistons, flowed head, rods, 2.9 pulley, plus the usual new oil pump etc. 'while we're in there'.

Already got other useful bits like quaife lsd, light fly & clutch, so with balancer delete may get the far side of 300bhp which should be a tasty upgrade while waiting for Harrop developments, and to keep in front of most of the expensive trackday machinery :D

Standard Pulley, standard rods, standard head, Piper cams and a good charge cooler= 262 BHP out of my canoe.

Did you use a B207 head gasket?

Nope, standard, in fact didn't even open up the engine.

Right.. So the angle I'm going with is... If I don't trade pulleys with Bargi for the standard one ill keep the 2.9inch pulley and ask CMS to map it out of the danger zone, if that means keeping the rev limiter low, to try and prevent it from going bang, then so be it :)

Kieran, do yourself a favour and don't get an artificially low rev limit. When I first had the conversion done at Courtenay's they ran into some problems with flaky fuelling (fuel pump wouldn't consistently deliver enough fuel) at high rpm and they had to reduce my rev limit for safety. Having had 7000rpm to play with for 3 years having it reduced to 6300rpm or whatever it was, was soooo frustrating. The engine spins up so quickly with the SC on, that I was forever bouncing off the limiter. It absolutely did my head in on the track. That's why I was so desparate for Courtenay's and ProAlloy to come up with a replacement fuel pump (which Cliffie sorted in the end).

No, no, no.

Standard pulley and 250 BHP is easy. Don't bother fitting the 2.9 until you are in the position to do all the other bits required to get up to the 300 mark.

Honest Kieron, 250 will be more than enough for you.

I am just about to buy a 2.9 from the states and would happily give you the money instead.

That rev limit will be horrendously low  Stop being a muppet and fit a standard pulley or put some pistons on a nice credit card

Does anyone know the approximate limit power wise on 10:1 Wisecos and a B207 head gasket before the CR becomes an issue?
