Actually both refer to the same thing the male part that the mould will be taken from. the female part is the mould the parts are made from

Prob mean the same thing, but I always think of a plug as a small male piece for an individual small discrete part. Where as a buck is the complete form of an entire complex object, including frame/formwork and scaffolding etc. can be broken into multiple pieces. Semantics really. They’re basically the same thing :)

Thanks guys. I try to learn stuff I don't know :)

Ed's definition sounds logical.

Asked a couple of US guys some time back what the difference was between a couch and a sofa. They had no idea :)

decided to go with this gearbox from the v6 TDI I've chosen this as its a cheap derivative and plenty of them about as to whether it can withstand the torque is another matter but being as its supposed to be the same as an 01e box in dimensions and the same as the later Porsche boxes it wont be a problem swapping it out at a later date

done some calculations based on the horsepower  and fluid flow dynamics of the Exige v6 body to give an estimated top speed with the ratios in the box

I know they may be a bit wide for a track car but should be interesting for a lazy road car for now.

Better build strong bodywork if you are going up to 223 MPH!

expect a few other things would come flying off long before the bodywork does lol

for those that asked previously with this engine and gearbox, the length from the front of the engine to the centerline of the axle will be 680mm adding a little to the front of the engine to make space for the waterpump

There is an even shorter Audi box that can be used:

Yes a shorter box is available for this engine

I went for the longer box as it's very similar to the Porsche box also my engine didn't come with a flywheel so I plan on using the rs4 b7 flywheel lightened and a paddle clutch

its been a while  since i last posted as work has been in the way alot last year, i managed to start looking at the engine

ZtcuxD4.jpg

and decided to junk the direct injection ,i know its a very trick injection system and it saves on fuel giving more power and so on but, after opening up the inlets and looking into the back of the  inlet valves  i was shocked to find them completely cacked in carbon gunk

xk2XYQo.jpg

,i know its a known problem with direct injection engines but i wasnt expecting to see so much on a 30k engine these audi engines must be dropping efficiency  like being pushed off a cliff

with the amount of gunk literaly  throtling the inlets it looked like there is atleast 4mm build up on the back of the valves  and the surrounding walls so thats why i decided to junk the direct inj and go for port injection to keep the inlets clean with the shower injectors  also the engine comes with a AC compressor ive been toying with a single turbo of the g35 or Electric  type and using the AC compressor as a chiller  intercooler theres a lot of work needed yet but atleast the rest of the engine is in very good condition judging by the cams

the front of the car is going to get a complete aproach regarding the improvement to aerodynamics as far as i can

ive been studying the latest developments regarding the lemans hyperclass and want to get the frontal air distribution as close as i can to those cars
