Having done my own sun visor and made a complete arse of it, I think I will leave it to the professionals.

You do get what you pay for IMHO.

I attempted a relatively flat piece of bodywork that i made a complete hash of.
I consider myself very practical as well.

Maybe it's patience that is required, i definitely don't have any of that.

I are very very very capable with the spanners etc but I have all the skill of a dead spider when it comes to applying vinyl

Can I just enquire what vinyl do you use mate? Always interested to see and hear what other people in the trade are using and getting on with? Is it a wrapping film out just plain vinyl looks like it acts like wrap from the pics :)

The black and yellow stuff in this thread is Ritrama Ri-mark L Series. It's not a wrapping vinyl but is good enough for wrapping surrounds and basic shapes. It's a real pain for complex deep 3d stuff though. I have used 3M Scotchcal 85 series in the past which is great and I am planning on trying out some KPMF cast film next.

Seriously I don't know how you make it look that easy!! I think my street were up for having me sectioned when I tried to wrap my screen a few months back, screaming, swearing and in the end ripped up vinyl in the bin. Thank god it was cheap crap from eBay though. Funny enough I ended up getting mine done this weekend at the Norfolk Vinyl day, I'm with Cliffie on this one, you get what you pay for and as my previously experience taught me, there's no point trying to save yourself a few quid but ending up with a tenners worth of vinyl in the bin and freaked out neighbours. Big thanks to Pink Princess for sorting me out this weekend! Chris

Not questioning your skills Steve, just mine and for me, I will leave it up to the pros.

For the sake of a fiver I am prepared to give it a go myself, I am fairly confident I could achieve acceptable results. Although it was with more workable vinyl I managed to make a very good job of wrapping my spoiler on my first ever attempt. Even if I do cock it up I will have the large section cut out from the middle left over that I will put to use on something else. Nothing ventured nothing gained I say, if you don't try something how do you know you can't do it?

If anyone is interested I have enough material to wrap 3 windscreens. £5 + P&P each

Great guide Steve chinky chinky

I'll have one of the three if still available as mine looks silly with black wheels and a silver surround

Just give me your wheels :P

Just finished mine today. Excellent guide. I struggled a bit getting the vinyl in place as it was just so soft and sticky.

Note to self - don't vinyl whilst outside in the sun Posted Image

A few pics.

The car was in the direct sun and made the vinyl very tacky. I thought it was supposed to be like that, and it wasn't until the sun went in and it all went hard that I realised. It looks like a right mess in the early stages, but seems to have come good in the end.

As you can see I'm not very good cutting out with a scalpel.

Still, I managed to unstick from itself and got a reasonable result - given the speed I did it at. Unfortunately the piece of vinyl was just about wide enough to reach both sides of the windscreen surround, and whilst fighting the wind and stick the piece must have moved leaving a big gap on the drivers side. I managed to use the sun to my advantage and stretched the vinyl as far as I dared, which just about covers the visible area.

Timing is difficult to say as I was in and out but probably 2hrs - new puppy, kids (not new) and I stopped for lunch. It's my first experience with vinyl (ooo errr) but that stuff is pretty forgiving. Even when it gets stuck to itself (sticky side on sticky side) it came apart without too many issues, perhaps because of the heat from the sun. I might even pluck up the courage for some more (wing mirrors or even a chavvy viper stripe  )

Good work, told you it wasn't that hard. Just saved yourself £45 there thumbsup Problem with the wing mirrors is you have to take the backs of to wrap them properly and it's real easy to smash the mirror while doing it. Spares are dirt cheap from ebay though (old metro mirrors)
