Is that just some pipe cut to size with thread for the bolts? Or does it have a capped end with holes?

As per Martin's pic here.

It reduces the trumpet effect of the tailpipes. They amplify the sound. It's noticeably less boomy with them in place.
They start as 12inches long and have been cut down to fit. 3 holes drilled and tapped to allow m8*20 bolts to hold them in place.

Did you get them from DT in the end then, as per the link?

Yep. £19 inc postage. So, even if they turn out to only make a 1 or 2 db difference (which might be enough for some track days) it's hardly an expensive exercise. I'll get a with and without noise test done at Abingdon to see what they do.

Cheers. My exhaust was 86DB at Bedford but with fitting a manifold I don't want to push my luck.

Abingdon was it's first track day under my ownership.
I used the db reducers above and got 92.3db, so well under the 100 requirement.

No different. All they do is reduce the trumpet effect of the large "decorative" part of the tailpipe. The flow isn't changed.

MOT passed yesterday with flying colours, so thats always good to know. Emissions was my main concern, but that passed fine. Also played around with the damper settings over the weekend and yesterday. When I first set the car up, I had Soft+11 clicks and it was VERY firm. I then set it to Soft+4 clicks over the weekend and it was like driving a jelly  So last night I set it to Soft+8 clicks and it's MUCH better. Firmer right, but still comfortable over dodgy road surfaces. I was amazed at how much difference a few clicks make, I dread to think what the "fully firm" setting is like! It must be like driving a solid lump of concrete!

Update time: Just fitted a Pioneer DEH-8400BT headunit with CD/SDcard/Bluetooth and iPod control. Along with TS-G1722I 17cm 2way Coaxial Speakers to replace the standard VDO shite. For another day is the fitment of TS-G1022I 2way Coaxial speakers into some MDF plates under the dash. Need to run some additional wiring as well.
