Hi All, I did promise to update this thread once I'd replaced my backup battery. Sorry it's taken so long - and thanks Macanear for prompting me! I've done the work - and as I don't use the car as often as I'd like, the main battery has gone flat a couple of times since my panic above, but fortunately the backup battery is now doing it's job and I can get inside to pop the bonnet and get the car on charge. In answer to questions above...Yes, the backup battery is charged by the alternator when the engine is running - and also it seems when the engine isn't running! Therefore, if you have a crap backup battery that isn't holding its charge, your main battery will continue trying to charge it - and therefore flatten itself! (This may only happen whilst the main battery is freshly charged - after a run for example - and once it drops its' first volt or two, it may stop trying to charge the backup battery. I didn't do extensive testing on this). There are diodes in place (or similar) to prevent the backup battery trying to back feed the main battery and car circuitry. However, if the backup battery is old, it will lose its charge over time and go flat. If it's really old, it will do this quite quickly! Hope this helps!

Ah - the joys of the NA....no central locking! http://www.vx220.org...supgraemlin.gif

Easy to fit if you really want it, as I did. Since mine' s now an NA with remote central locking, I fitted a waterproof socket under the front clam behind my turbo splitter, as I don't have the back-up battery. Now if the main battery is flat I can connect up a charger without opening the bonnet, or just connect a solar charger/battery conditioner. Just need to make sure I disconnect it before reversing out the drive.

take the drivers side arch out 4 screws I thick. I had to take the N/S out to get my locking wheel nut. you can get to the nut with the wheel on. I found the drivers side easier to pull the bonnet catch wire. once the bonnet open put power to the battery and open the door. all done

So where is the back up battery located in the boot, and where do you get a new one from, lastly is it easy to fit.

Pictures would be a help.

Thanks
