This is what i love about this here forum Imnotworthy We come from all walks of life, some indeed walking, some driving, some (such as myself) riding and others running so fast they have little time left for themselves let alone others but we all, regardless, have time, energy, care and space for eachother. With little more than the computer infront of us and a love for little plastic cars within us shared, we openly enthuse more than the sum total of our equalities. God bless the forum and all who sail within her :grouphug:

It might be worth taking advice from somewhere that isn't a forum.

Compromise agreements are complicated and the clauses within them, differ from agreement to agreement. The difference in payout between people that read them, understand them and fight for what is reasonably theirs can be stark.

Often, remaining holiday, pension, benifits (such as a company car) etc etc are 'forgotten'.

The company must pay for you to get independent legal advice before you can sign it so you understand it.

Hey Spuk87, I just noticed that you rock climb (same as me). Maybe you can get stuck into that for a bit. What sort of grade do you lead ?

There are only 2 of us plus the technical director and my colleague handed his notice in last week, plus my director has just told me he has accepted a job in Dubai so only me left! I can't do this job without their support so I will either be made redundant or have to leave :( .

Have to say I'd doubt your company would want to loose all it's engineer capability

I may have asked this before at the DOY but do you have any FEA experience, we're possible after someone in Derby. But other than that if you prepared to move to Aberdeen (yeh it's a big ask) there is a massive shortage of engineers up there, not just at our company but everywhere.

Could be a blessing in disguise, in a way it gives me the freedom to do things I probably wouldn't do otherwise. In fact I might start another thread in a minute with a poll to get opinions on what I do next...

I've said it before, but i've been made redundant 3 times and im 38 - each time it's felt like a massive kick in the balls but each time it's been a great thing in the long term.

IF you are going to search for new jobs say absolutely nothing about it and just see what happens with your current position. I would always advise updating your CV and starting to look right now, but just dont tell anyone in your work.

Good luck thumbsup

Thanks again everyone, this place really does offer a good all-round advice service :grouphug:

Good luck Si. Time to push on along that RAF process :)

Would love to, but recruitment is frozen until April 2012 (for pilot) by which time I will be really pushing my luck for age thumbsdown . Got aptitude for BA on Monday though (think you already knew from FB though) :) .

Engineer, west mids,.... boultings are always on the lookout for people. They do all the engineering at our place.

Will give them a look, thanks thumbsup

Ha, I'm somewhat more of a beginner than you then! Have literally just started so no leading yet, can just about manage a 5+ top-rope.

Only have very basic FEA experience if I'm honest; simple spans and structural anchors/brackets is about it.

Well it's hardly set in stone but it looks as though I'm safe for the time being. Today they announced the numbers from each department; technical has 1 against it. There are currently 3 of us; 1 has already handed his notice in and the other is the director who has already been told verbally that he will be made redundant- so it seems that "1" is him...but I'm hardly counting my chickens just yet.
